With names like "Rogue" and "Intensity," we're totally picturing these phones breaking out of their tethers in Verizon stores, wreaking havoc, pickpocketing customers, and stealing identities during credit checks -- but in reality, we've just got a couple of unassuming QWERTY sliders in the mix here. Starting with the lower of the two, the
Intensity keeps things simple by leaving out 3G and sticking with a 1.3 megapixel camera, so we're thinking this slots in right underneath the
Rival as far as Big Red's text-heavy wares go. Moving up, the
Rogue is looking to put the
Glyde out to pasture with a 3.1-inch WVGA AMOLED display, 3 megapixel cam with autofocus, HTML browser, and naturally,
TouchWiz. Both units hit streets on September 8; you'll pay $199.99 with a $100 rebate on a new two-year agreement for the pricey Rogue, while the more pocketbook-friendly Intensity runs $79.99 on contract with a $50 rebate.
what happened to the Rogue ??????????? I thought it had 3G, & Wifi ???? don't tell me Big Red took it out !!!!! damn U
This is not the Samsung-Verizon announcement I've been waiting for. Hint - it starts with an "O", and rhymes with "Homnia Too".
You mean the Omnia Pro ?
Yes it looks interesting
Touch Pro 2......... TOUCH PRO 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
+1 on TP2
+1, come on Verizon, TP2, TP2!
are we going to have a review on the tp2 for verizon soon or what? isn't it dropping tonight? WTF man, am I actually going to have to buy and iphone and start wearing the maroon turtlenecks and eclecticly colored footwear that seem to accompany them?
I'm sorry, but I don't understand the allure of the Touch Pro 2. Sure, HTC has made a well-designed handset with the right specs. But unless you need a business phone, I don't understand how Engadget readers are dying for another Windows mobile device, especially WM 6.1 (I might be wrong on this last point.) Can someone fill me in?
I need WinMo to have full sync with my office. Blackberry won't unless we have the Enterprise server - and we don't. My Treo 700 is junk and on it's last leg. The other phones (TP1) are already outdated. I'm eligible for NE2 and have been waiting and waiting and waiting to upgrade. If only VZW would release a halfway new businessphone, I'd do it. I suspect many others are in the same boat. TP2 fits the bill for those looking for a business/cool phone.
@Evan
I don't really know why so many people want smart phones either. Younger kids I know in the 18-22 range all have smart phones with $100+ a month contracts so they can twitter that they are pooping or clipping their toenails 175 times a day. I really don't get it.
YEEEEESSSSS! Finally! I've been waiting for them to launch the Rogue for weeks! Was wishing it had wi-fi though :-(. I don't need a smart phone like the Omnia 2, and there is nothing in sight as far as the Jet coming state side so this will have to do. Hope it's as good as it looks.
Looks like the rogue will require a data plan, LOOK!
what the H%&^$$# .... a Data plan w/o Wifi .... I don't get it.... 3G is fast but U can't compare to Wifi speed.....
@ crawcraw
I have had an HTC touchHD since nearly a year now, and even if I recently aquired both an HTC hero and a Nokia N97, I simply can't live anymore without it.
I have tried also to juggle a bit with the TP2 which is a very nice phone , but in my opinion the TouchHD is still better (and far sexier), you just have to download a free virtual keyboard called "FingerKboard" which is better than most phisical ones and you're set. Moreover the touchHD's camera is 5mpx instead of the 3mpx on the TP2, and after HTC firm update for the camera is far better also as videocam, and , and, and, I could go on and on and bore you even more.
Anyway ,I will pension my beloved TouchHD only when I'll be able to substitute it with a snapdragon powered and win 6.5 driven HTC Leo (firestone).
Recently someone asked me why I bought the N97 and the Hero if I keep on using my old TouchHD, and all I could answer was to mind his XXXXX business.
hello the other day i left a comment that was wrong i apoligize i wasnt paying attention any who the samsung intensity is the yellowish slider that was suspected to be the bigfoot a few weeks back if anyone remembers it was neon yellow im not sure which site had the photo but it was more than one and this is an official comnment this time so saerch away low budgers
BGR posters are starting rumors that any adopters will have migrate to either a Connect/Premium plan or no phone, even if you have a VCast pack. My question is, does the Connect plan have any entertainment in it? Another rumor is that the $15 unlimited data VCast pack will be replaced by $10 25mb and $20 75mb VCast packs, who can verify?
Hmm one weird thing I saw when comparing the two spec sheets is the music player listings. If you notice, under the Music section on the Rogue's sheet there is a "Music Player for: MP3, WMA, Unprotected AAC & AAC+ formats" but the VCast Music player listing is completely separate under Services. On the cheaper side for the Instinct, you can see that under Music it lists the VCast player right next to the "Music Player" in the same section. Could Verizon have left Samsung's own music player intact on the Rogue and actually given the users the option to choose for once?? Maybe it's just wishful thinking and the tech writer goofed...but I sure hope not.
@ Plexus
I don't see touchHD as an option for me here. I have tp1, omnia1, ozone & some other crap.
there are NO good winmo phones for verizon, why does it freaking take months for verizon to release a phone? why, why, why?
