Well, we can't say we didn't see this one coming. At
today's meeting, the FCC has said that it will be launching a formal inquiry into the wireless industry and specifically into certain business practices of the big four: AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile USA , and Verizon Wireless. The commission hasn't yet detailed exactly how they're going to go about this, but you can bet they'll be looking into exclusivity deals between handset manufacturers and carriers. And who knows? They might be interested in the whole iPhone / AT&T / Google Voice conundrum, especially if it turns out that AT&T had a hand in dissing the app. According to Reuters, the agency is looking into "how competition affects consumers," with an eye towards further investigations into other areas, including cable and broadband.

Thank you Obama administration. Big business is pure evil. While you're at it, you should look into the monopoly that Budweiser has on the beer market, the monopoly Apple has in the portable music player market, and let's go after Microsoft again too just because it's Microsoft. We should probably check on Toyota too since they sell a lot more vehicles than anybody else does. We need more and more regulation in the private sector because let's face it, we can't leave anything to them anymore since they'll just destroy the economy. The government should dictate EVERYTHING that goes on in the private sector so as to prevent another downturn. Down with the free market! Socialism all the way!
Wow. Just wow.
Thank you Bush administration, big government is pure evil... oh wait, warrant-less wiretapping? I mean, Republicans... Thank you Republicans, wait... you actually like Medicare? You want to protect it? You want to increase Medicare spending? You do realize that is a government run health insurance program, right? Oh well, I mean conservatives... Yes, thank you conservatives, Big Government is pure evil... wait, abortion is evil so government should criminalize that? Gays are also evil so the government should deny them equal marriage benefits? Evolution is evil as well? Have to teach creationism?
Yeah!! Screw the Bush administration. What the hell did they do for our country! The rich should pay for all of us! But, I do believe abortion is wrong Bernardino, after 11 weeks. Any time before then is okay. Partial birth abortions are pure murder. No question about that. The fact that Obama is cool with that is the only thing I have against our leader.
So let me get this right. You like the fact that here in America we pay for incoming and outgoing calls and text messages? Something few other countries do. You think big business unchecked is the way to go and the market will fix any industry that is up to no good? We finally have an FCC that looks out for the consumer and small business instead of paving the way for big business to get even bigger and you think that's a bad thing? Ya know politics aside, you my sarcastic friend, are a true Douche Nozzle. To bring this BS into a tech forum shows you are so brain washed that I'm surprised you even have time away from talk radio to even read this story.
Um, Su2lly, why are you attacking me for? Did you not read my first statement? You can call it sarcasm all you want, but I'm with you. Our only difference might be that I am in favor of total government control over everything. I want them to dictate everything because I don't believe any of these companies have consumers or workers in their interests, but I think the government does. I'm glad to see someone in office who believes these things as well. It gives me a lot of hope that we will see a transformation of this country from the wrong vision to the right vision, and judging by how government is expanding, it looks like we're on our way to that thankfully. And yes, I do listen to talk radio. NPR. You have a problem with that?
Shouldn't the FCC have taken this on, I don't know, over a decade ago?
You hear that sound? Its the sound of the 'Innovation in America' clock running down. Big business is broke in this country and as all great civilizations are eventually brought low, so to is the good Ol USA entering its twilight years. The bailouts, the handouts, the broken business as usual corporate apathy all point in one direction ... bankruptcy and and bastardization. Until entire paradigm shifts in the business and government mindset occur in the US, were barreling down that road. Perhaps if we revisit the core principles the US was founded on we could find our way through this morass. Socialism and meddling control isnt the way.
Who is that man on the picture?
I think this is kind of inquiry is what's needed in Canada. Americans already get fantastic rates compared to Canadians.
But any inquiry in Canada will find that there somehow IS competition among the 3 major carriers here. That same commission will likely also find that pro-wrestling is real and smoking doesn't lead to lung cancer.
Haha. As much as American's bitch about phone rates and most things wireless or high speed, I would take American wireless over Canadian wireless
