In backwards order, Nokia has finally launched the
N900 after we've already seen a
review and countless leaks. Nevertheless, it's good to have the new Maemo 5 Internet Tablet out in the open and official-like. The specs include a 3.5-inch 800x480 pixel (resistive) touchscreen, sliding QWERTY, 32GB of on-board storage expandable to 48GB via microSD, GPS/A-GPS, FM transmitter, TV-out, Bluetooth 2.1, WiFi, 1320mAh battery, and 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and dual-LED flash. Better yet, this monster MID brings the power of the ARM Cortex-A8, up to 1GB of application memory, and OpenGL ES 2.0 graphics acceleration to make quick work of polygons and what Nokia promises will be a "PC-like experience on a handset-sized device." It also brings a Mozilla-based Maemo browser with Adobe Flash 9.4 support. As expected, it'll be on display at Nokia World next week before this quad-band GSM/EDGE, 900/1700/2100MHz UMTS/HSPA handset heads to select markets in October for €500 (pre tax and pre carrier subsidy). And by the looks of that 1700MHz band, this baby's heading to T-Mobile USA.
Update: Videos added after the break.
MMS support?? Accelerometer?? This is constantly being shown in landscape orientation. I'm starting to wonder if it can be used in portrait orientation.
Really? :) How about this photo? http://www.engadget.com/photos/nokia-n900-running-maemo-5-officially-500-euro-in-october/2238460/
When you get a call it switches to portrait. Did you watch the last few seconds of the video?
Oops, my bad that was Boygeniusreports... just a sec
" @boygeniusreport Nokia N900 gets official http://bit.ly/dcjOf "
I've seen everything to do with this phone. One screenshot of it in portrait, and yes I saw the video where it switches. I'm just intrigued by why it's constantly in landscape.
If you swap the handset into portrait mode in the main menu it brings up the "phone" application, too. They're assuming that it's going to mostly be used in landscape.
lol @ video 1!
they spent all that time making an awesome, spinning, 3D N900 with sparkles, colorful lighting effects, electronica music, etc, but @ 0:47 they couldnt be bothered to make one extra line of text. instead, they copied the text from 15:55, moved it to the top, and changed the time to 15:45. lol! so not only does the convo not make sense, but the top two messages are the same person in a row. ya, minor thing to notice. but i just think its funny considering how much effort went into everything else. it probably took more time to copy and paste that line to the top, change the time, and shift everything else down, than it would have to just make a new unique line at the bottom. lol. oh well, either way I WANT THIS DEVICE! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE MAKE A UMTS 850/1900 VERSION!!!
@youngcalihottie
Nerd. :)
COSIGN
I need this in Att bands please, pretty please!
NEVER... Now at&t / rogers subscribers will know how T-Mob's have been feeling with all the goodies being released with 850/199 WCDMA
Wheres all the iphone fanboys at? Let the hating game begins. Please tmobile, I got 500 dollars and another 2 years I want to give u. Just give me the phone now!
That pretty much sums it up for me too :)
Amen! I am with you! Ready to give em another 2 years if they can bring this in for a subsidized $350 to $400 N900 option!
Iphone and Symbian are totally dead now! Finally Nokia has released something what is really good opponent against Iphone after those immature 5800 and N97. If Nokia would launch this new platform fast as like 5 devices in year their success could be unquestionable.
Dont think iPhone is dead quite yet but Symbian is for sure.
I know its easy to compare everything to iPhone but in reality Maemo is about mobile computing and iphone is about mobile media.
Saying all that, cant wait to get my hands on this baby.
i think symbian will live as a replacement for s40
Cool zoom feature. Original. If not comical to watch :)
Damn. Just read from http://maemo.nokia.com/n900/specifications/ that it is 181g. But the size is acceptable 110.9 × 59.8 × 18 (19.55 at thickest part) mm
Yeah.. one of the first things I did was compare this to the Touch Pro 2 size and weight..
It's nearly identical, which is a good thing. TP2 is bigger than some phones but not a pain to carry by any means.
Check this.. too funny.

YES, YES, YES....Sudo Gainroot works.... Android was supposed to be so "free", so "open"... yet one has to go through a hell to "root it". Not so with Maemo.. just plain beautiful Linux.
Sweet!! Without a doubt they r gonna launch a version with SDXC support!!
I like iphone better. ♥
isn't this the device we've all been waiting for?
I got a stiffie!
Chat rep from Nokia just told me pre-orders being taken next week in the USA.
Bye Bye WinMo ....Hello Maemo (N900)
Could we assume that the T-Mobile USA site will be updated with this N900 in the next few weeks? 1700Mhz... GOD ....We can only hope so!
