HTC Snap comes to Alltel for $79.99
Alltel customers -- totally legit ones who've been left out of the Verizon integration -- have a few things going for them, not the least of which is a one-year contract policy that applies across the lineup. That means you can get a Tour for the same two bills you'd pay on Sprint or Verizon but with only half the time commitment, but now, it also means you can get an HTC Snap (generic version pictured above) for just $80. Considering it's the same form factor with international roaming capability that the Tour offers, that might be $120 worth saving if you're not married to BlackBerry OS and you're willing to give WinMo a fair shake. That's not so crazy of an idea, is it?

second time you guys are using the gsm snap for a cdma carrier. not nice if someone expects a trackball and goes to the store to see there is none.
at least you added that its generic but i dont get why not use an actual cdma picture
I would still take the Tour over the Snap because notwithstanding that I'm a Crackberry addict, the Tour seems more high-end in its design and quality and the camera is actually quite decent (coming from a Curve 8900 user's perspective). Plus the keyboard is absolutely divine!
The build quality of HTC's smartphone line (non-touchscreen) far exceeds its line of PPC phones (Touch screen PDAs).
I'm not sure why it is, but I'm assuming it has something to do with the target audience being more interested in solid quick-response devices than latest-and-greatest PDA features (accelerometers, widescreen VGA, etc...). That being said, the features they DO pack into these things are usually top-notch, and if you check out the reviews, the Snap's camera is one of the fastest and most responsive of a smartphone camera to date.
Personally, I find my HTC's Touch Pro camera to exceed anything shot on a Blackberry camera, and my keyboard more comfortable as well (dedicated 5th row of number keys helps).
I'm not saying the Tour isn't better (I haven't tested them side by side), especially if you're a crackberry addict, but I think the reasons you list are not valid concerns. Sounds like something one would say if they've never tried a competing product...
I forgot to add that I don't know how comfortable the keyboard on the snap is because I've never used it, and I'm aware that it is different than the wonderful keyboard I have on the Touch Pro... but, my point was that HTC puts decent hardware into these devices, and the smartphone (which this is one of) line is even more solid and robust than what I have now.
Windows Mobile is horrid. That is reason alone to pass on this, granted most HTC WinMo devices have excellent specs. My wife received her HTC Ozone back in July and hated it, the camera is a dismal 2 MP without auto focus for heavens sake, plus its d pad is outdated. This is almost 2010 not 2003. I have played with a HTC Touch Pro 2 and that device is nice, too bad it runs Windows Mobile. I have a Tour and the camera is great, anyone that says BB's cant take good pictures obviously hasnt tried one lately. Just check out crackberry.com and the Tour picture section

I am waiting for a high end HTC device running Android, now that should be a game changer.
I hope T-Mobile is watching this thread.
$169.00 for the same phone on a 2 year agreement.
Shameful!
