Nokia N900 now up for $649 preorder in the US of A
Nokia fans know the drill -- if you happen to live in the vicinity of the New York or Chicago flagship stores, you're almost certainly better off holding out and camping in front of the store as the launch date draws near -- but now that they're being taken, the rest of the States might strongly consider filing an preorder with Nokia USA's official online store if they want an N900 as soon as humanly possible. That's a good deal less than the US equivalent of $860 currently being asked by the company's German and Italian outposts, so we guess we should be thankful -- provided, of course, that the US launch isn't delayed into oblivion by some combination of T-Mobile drama, firmware issues, distribution problems, or swarms of locusts destroying trucks as they attempt to make deliveries. A pessimistic way to look at it, yes, but remember: a pessimist is never disappointed.

Yeah, considering Nokia is 2 for 2 with preorder disappointments, I'll just wait for amazon or dell to have it for cheaper and most likely even get it quicker with them anyways.
Maybe when there is 850/1900 3G... *sigh*
exactly! and when its $50 cheaper! i can already tell the price will drop quickly considering they didnt even use their own 1-to-1 conversion rate
Maybe this is worth shooting someone over...
I find it funny that they price the N97 only fifty dollars less.
The N900 has upgraded features in all aspects, and yet they don't
lower the price?
It's elementary which one to buy...
I would say comparison isn't so clear-cut... Maemo 5 is essentially fresh-new platform. Even if S60 (with Java and native apps) is pain to develop, it shines in the regard of applications available for it (unless you're quite a nerd). Buying N900 now is either a strong bet for the hardware and software platforms in the future, or sheer ignorance of the situation.
Well. I'm betting on the platform, but that's probably because I know how to hack things better on the device, and that I can do it. So, I'm outside 99.99% phone buyer demographic. At the same time, I feel a bit sorry for those people that are not exactly latest-gadget collectors but compare the hardware specs, and then select N900 based on that, and the price, unless they pretty much stick to using it as a phone with a web browser.
Considering that this has T-Mobile's 3G frequency, I think I'll just wait and see if Catherine Zeta-Jones ends up hawking it.
Soooooo does this mean that Tmobile won't be picking it up and carrying it with a heavy subsidy with a contract?!?... Is getting it unlocked and from Nokia or some other vendor the only way to get it?
Operating Frequency
* Quad-band EGSM 850/900/1800/1900, WCDMA 900/1700/2100
* Automatic switching between GSM bands
* Flight mode
wait wot
= Tmobile 3G or AT&T 2G
tmo 3G nice
tmo 3G *tear*
its unlocked?
also unlocked when you buy from nokia directly and no carrier modifications to hardware or software
always*
finally a proper device with tmobile 3g. i doubt t-mobile will carry this anytime soon though, i'm getting this as soon as its available from amazon or dell
no ATT 3g???
I'm amazed how T-mob always has sucky phones for subsidy, but they can't let us get this glorious gem! I'd pay 200-350 for this on T-mob, But I guess If I get this unlocked I won't have to worry about getting an extended contract!
