If you've got $50 and a hankering for CDMA-powered Android, look no further than Best Buy Mobile where presales of the
HTC Hero for Sprint have now been confirmed for a September 13 kickoff. It's hard to gauge how tight supply of these bad boys is going to be out of the gate, so realistically, this could go either way -- money well-spent or extraordinarily poorly-squandered -- but in any event, at least you're getting the Grant back in a few weeks' time when you see that $50 deduction on your receipt. Don't go squandering it on an extended service plan, alright?
[Thanks, Mark]
Everything plan required?
No, the Everything data plan @ $69.99 will suffice...the $99 plan isnt necessary
I had a manager for SERO/ERP tell me it was confirmed that morning in a meeting that this device would not have an EP requirement. Just a plan that has unlimited data.
I had them make a note in my account that I was eligible w/o upgrading my plan.
You betcha!
I can't wait I'll be waiting in line to give my $50. I still prefer the Jay Leno edition but conan is growing on me. Sprint FTW!
You almost sound excited that the Everything plan is required...
I'll say this I've been on a retentions family plan for the past 2 years and even I can't get any phones that require a Everything plan even though I have basically everything someone on one of those plans has. Moving my family to one of those plans would increase my bill by almost $60 extra a month, thanks Sprint.
I know everyone seems to be digging the no-chin look but to me it makes it look like a tmobile HTC Dash from 3 years ago minus the keyboard. The chin HTC hero was sweet. This looks just like any other HTC.
I said the same thing!!!!
I agree, i dont like the look of this one, the chin on the Hero defines it and gives it its uniqueness.
Hopefully the Android Market store gets better than the one on my Pre
The Android Market has something like 8000 apps. It already blows the Pre's app store out of the water.
You can go to the following link and browse all the applications available for Android. This site automatically mirrors what's on the Android Marketplace.

The Android Store is awesome, I had the G1 and the MyTouch which I returned as soon as I knew about this phone coming to the US.. its freaking awesome.. plus now Sprint has the unlimited MObile to Mobile feature... $70 and you have everything.. I mean everything! I LOVE SPRINT.. SCREW what everyone says about the company.. they are awesome!
As far as the info I've gleamed so far it says an unlimited data plan or the Everything plan is required so SERO and grandfathered plans may be able to acquire it
They will be able to be grandfathered in per my SERO rep that I talked to on the phone. They even noted it in my account.
I have no idea how BB mobile works so can someone answer me this....
If I'm half-way through my 2yr contract on an Instinct with Sprint and I qualify for a $150 off upgrade, how would that apply to BB mobile? Does BB mobile honor the upgrade or what?
Its the same as going to a sprint store, just no mail and rebate
If you are a sprint premier customer you can get the full upgrade after 1 year, or you can just BS your way to the right customer service rep that will just do it for you. I don't know if I want this or the TP2 don't think I can do without the keyboard.
Yes Bestbuy Mobile will honor your upgrade and it is an instant rebate. Go into any local bestbuy and they can do an upgrade check on you, its takes like two seconds and they will let you know on the spot what you qualify for.
Pity they changed the design. I've got a HTC Hero with 'chin' and it really helps the balance when you are holding it and using the trackball etc. It actually seems to draw a lot of attention from people who like it for looking 'different'.
Good new is that HTC have finalised the update to the Sense UI, and leaked versions are already on the internet ( And on my phone). The annoying lag that was widely reported is gone and the device is now crisp and fast.
how do you get the updated rom? Will it be on the released sprint version?
how long is this an exclusive for Sprint ? ( I have AT&T)
HERO will be a Sprint Exclusive in CDMA form...meaning Verizon Subscribers will have to hope for another android device. There is a US GSM version....dunno the release date tho
actually, best buy's protection plan is better than sprint's. no deductibles, no limits to claims, no refurbs, battery replacement, no lemon policy, loaner phones...
so AT&T or T-Mobile could get this ? there was no 1700 mhz listed in the FCC filing was there ?
I'm due for an upgrade in December and was hoping to choose between the new(er) iPhone, the touch pro2, or the hero, subsidized of course
December ?
With luck the Sony Ericsson phone will be out by then, but who knows on which network.
It will have a WVGA screen and run at a blistering 1Ghz :)
But I'm happy with my HTC Hero for the next year so so.
but if you get through the sprint employee site, you get a better plan.
http://delivery.sprint.com/m/p/sprint/epc/epclanding.asp
500 mins and data for 59.99 versus 450 mins and data for 69.99 regular.
yea that would be nice but I need to know a Sprint employee's email and part of their Sprint id so hook that up for me and I'm down for saving that money
You just have to google it - this knowledge has been around for awhile
Email: russ.s.mcguire@sprint.com
Last 3 digits of employee ID: 383
thanks for the info qrius
that deal has solidified my decision to move to sprint come oct 11
this thing is UGLY!!!! what happened to the real HERO??? this thing looks liek a htc-zero
I reserved mine today! Certain Best Buy's are selling them early. Well not the phones but the pre-sale vouchers. I bought mine today. Now just have wait till the 11th to get my hands on my new baby!
CANT WAIT!!!
Preorders started on the 4th, so stores aren't doing it early, some are just doing it late.
Do they give you a 50dollar gift card or will they just subtract $50 from the $179.99??
It's a no sell here, the screen is the same old 3.2" & not the 3.5"
which Android really needs due to the default font size. Plus, it's
under powered when you look at some of the software coming down the
pipe. It needs a fast processor, more rom & the ability to run apps
from the SD card. I'll never understand why someone hasn't cleared
the Running apps from the SD card hurtle yet. I know there's a
3rd party fix but it would be nice to see it come from the factory with this
function.
I'm so excited to switch to Sprint! but i can't find this pre sale page online. do you
have to go to the store
in response to the whole plan thing... i am a former sprint employee and this device is most likely gonna require an everything plan... sprint wouldnt have it any other way.. with the amount of data this phone is gonna use and require to remain a great device and run all those cool apps, so ya, definitely gonna be necessary to have an everything plan.. sprint is a business, not a charity... theyre not gonna be bleed money just letting this great device be activated on any plan.. and in response to htowngator, it doesnt matter if they notated your acct.. god sprint customers are just so ignorant sometimes.. see, in our systems, when it comes time to activate your phone, we scan the barcode under the battery and then it prompts us to either swap it, if its on the correct plan, but if you have lets say, an expired plan, or not an everything data plan, the system will not let us acivate the phone, we get an error message, and the only thing it prompts is "swap plan". and it will only bring up the plans that the device is capable of being on. so ya, suck it cheap @$$es LoL, and pay your bills, pay em on time, and sprints plans are way better than att and vz anyways. i was a sprint customer before i was an employee, now i have my own biz, but ya, i was never a whiny bi+chy customer, thinking phone companies owe me.. they dont owe anyone anything, its a service, not a charity ppl... =P if you dont like their policies, switch, if you bi+ch at other cell phone companies too, well then, get messenger pigeons, walkie talkies, or aluminum cans on strings, all are of which are totally free services and you'll never hafta worry about overages or contracts again... Peace Love and Awesome Bud !!!
The pre-sale is only in the Best Buy stores. Just call your Best Buy, ask for the Mobile department and ask them if they are allowing for the pre-ordering of the Sprint Hero. That's what I did and I have mine on order!!
You can pre order them now!
I pre ordered mine yesterday!
I just called my local Best Buy in Midwest City, OK (talked with Jennifer) and she said that they aren't taking pre orders for the Hero. She said that "they are fixing to take Sprint from us and we aren't sure if we will be getting any Hero's in stock"????? Whatever that meant? Has anyone else heard that?
