Alright, so maybe a
square Nokia isn't your style -- we understand. Maybe you'd like something a little more businesslike, something with a little more Exchange ActiveSync flair and a keyboard with room to spare. What you're looking for, we reckon, is the
Touch Pro2 -- and now that Sprint and T-Mobile both have it, it's Verizon's turn to get real with HTC's latest QWERTY beast. Knowing full well that this is a businessperson's dream, HTC and Verizon have gone ahead and stuffed EDGE in there to keep you connected while you're abroad; otherwise, you've got the same WVGA resolution, 3.2 megapixel cam, GPS, and WiFi as the other guys, and just like Sprint, you're signed up for that all-important 3.5mm headphone jack. Global capability doesn't come cheap in this case, though: expect to pay $299.99 on a two-year deal before a $100 mail-in rebate.
Anyone want to eat crow that was predicting it would take months after sprint releases the device before vzw does. Or eat crow about locked gps, changed ui (its a smartphone duh), tech specs etc? Thought not this is engadget...
And over at AT&T (crickets chirping...)
Yeah seriously, AT&T are dragging their feet on this one.
Um....$199? Time for Sprint and T-Mo to lower their prices....
Yes.
you say its expensive, yet its no more expensive than an Iphone, and $100 cheaper than on T-mobile and Sprint
Is $50 dollars cheaper than sprint and tmobile is $299.99 after the 100 dollar mail in rebate so you pay $400 up front then wait for those $100 dollars to arrive. those $50 dollars more you pay with sprint you make up for it in savings in around 2 months compared to vzw specially how you-re forced to their expensive data plans.
@periks19
It is $199.99 after the $100 mail in rebate. $299.99 up front not $400. Reading comprehension ftw...
UMMMMM...it is $450 on Sprint/T-Mo minus $100 MIR for a total of $350.
It is $300 on Verizon minus $100 MIR for a total of $200...
That is a HUGE difference for the SAME phone...
@trooth okay my bad so it is $199.99 $150 dollars less than sprint. Still factor in the 2 year contract is way more expensive than sprint but i still would of love to see that same price for the sprint version.
Doesn't come cheap?
$299 before MIR is same as 32 GB iPhone 3GS.
And it has a $100 MIR to make it $199 AR, I'd say thats pretty damn good.
Of course the expensive part is the Verizon contract...
Cheaper than your iPhone contract!
No iPhone here, just waiting for AT&T's TP2 (Tilt 2).
And I've got $15 unlimited data not the bull they charge smartphones and iPhones.
Being grandfathered in is both good and bad. Good that I'm locked in at those good prices, bad that if I switch I'll get raped by the new prices elsewhere.
69.99 450 data plan with texts with sprint
39.99 450 min +29.99 data+ unlimited texts= 79.99 (not including my corporate discounts)
dont see where that equals the $150 in 2 months
@jide sprint is $69.99 for 450 minutes unlimited night and weekends at 7:00pm unlimited everything else.
VZW 39.99 for 450 minutes 29.99 for unlimited data use plus $20 dollars for not even unlimited txt is only 5,000 txt, pic, and video plus $9.99 for gps navigation plus I don't even think vzw offers unlimited night and weekends at 7:00pm it didn't give that option in their website.
Total with vzw is 39.99 plus 29.99 plus 20 plus 9.99 for the navigation is $99.97 a month which in sprint it would be $69.99 but you will get unlimited night and weekend minutes at 7.00pm and unlimited text, picture, vide not only 5,000. Thats a total savins of $29.98 a month in two months is 59.96 thats why i had said you will make it up in two months when i taught vzw phone was for 300 after the rebate.
Total cost for sprint is $350 for device plus $69.99 for 2 years is $2029.76. VZW is 199.99 for device plus $99.97 for years is $2599.27 and like I said thats with only 5,000 txt, video, and pic and only night and weekend minutes with verizon at 9:00pm not at 7:00 like with sprint so yeah which is cheaper in the long run? $569.51 more for vzw for less stuff is seriously ridiculous.
Perik, Verizon does have unlimited messagnig for just $20, its called the select plan its $59.99 for unlim msg and 450 min. Next time actually do some research. Lets not forget that you are paying for a better network with Verizon. Sprint has a terrible network and terrible customer service... their only upside is they cost less... which is fine if you are ok with that.
@ir1 maybe if you do some research yourself and see who i was responding you see that i was responding to the basic plan for 39.99 and yes if you select that plan and want text the max is 5,000 text, pic, and video for $20 dollars. Why is that option there when you can get the $59.99 with unlimited text, pic, and video is because thats the way vzw would try to rip you off instead of having a tool advising people they should get the 59.00 for just 1 penny less. Instead they leave that option for somebody that is not aware of that.
Now to service?? yes vzw has really better voice coverage. When you say sprint is terrible i imagine something like att 3g network thats terrible. Sprint is up par with its 3g network with vzw and even more dependable than vzw. Have you done some research and seen pc world results?? I don't know where you live maybe there sprint may not be as good but in the areas where sprint and vzw have good signal why would somebody want to pay more for less?? unless you-re stupid or rich and don't give a F#$K.
Everywhere i been mostly on the west region CA, live in AZ, TX, NM, etc i get good voice signal and in the areas where there is no sprint signal i get free voice/data roaming. Why would i want to pay more money just so i can get to say vzw is better in other parts of the united states.
Perik, yes everyone knows att's 3g coverage is terrible. But I hear all the time from friends, here in CA, about how they are not happy with coverage in many areas. Yes Sprints 3G coverage is pretty comparable to Verizon's, but what good is that if you do not get the voice coverage when you need it? Lets not even start with Sprints customer service, I know some former sprint customers who would tell you some horror stories. I am sure Verizon has plent of their own horror stories, but they are still rated much higher than Sprint in Consumer reports and JD Powers surveys, credit to T-Mobile as well for having good customer care, which is besides even lower prices is about all they have going for them.
ir1 Like I said if you live in an area where sprint's voice signal is worthless than what is the point of having them. In the western part of the United States sprint is really good and parts where they don't have signal sprint will either roam to vzw or other companies for free voice and data in their plans. Now their customer service really I have never had an issue and been with them for 10 years and I have seen them improved over the years. I have heard horror stories from all companies including sprint for me is the quality of service and prices since I will hardly call customer service. One thing for sure is ATT and VZW they will try to nickel and dime you for anything thats what i don't like about them they are way overpriced but at least of the 2 VZW at least has good quality voice signal and 3g network.
I choose sprint because it delivers what vzw delivers in my area and where i travel too so for me whats the point of paying for instance $30 more a month? I am not poor but neither rich and saving $30 a month is something anyone will try to do. Now if I was to find myself in another area with no sprint signal then my needs would change. I don't really care about any company cause at the end is not like i own stock or are a owner of any I just pick who has the best plans and better service and more to offer.
Perik I cant argue with ya there... for your sake lets hope Sprint stays in business long enough. People are leaving Sprint in droves. Off topic, the iPhone has jumped the shark, its to the point where anyone I see with an iPhone I think "oh your one of those... had to have the hipster phone people" .... I dont even know why I want to get started down this road... where is my omnia 2 news?! now thats the phone i want...
Do the math.
Sprint has the better deal when you factor in the 2yr. contracts.
???? sprint fanboys jealous that they gotta pay 150 more for the same phone. lets remember it is the same phone not the same service, your paying extra for service (customer and cell service) which in my opinion is a big difference, but the phones are exactly the same. Hope u saved up enough to come up with that 450+ out the door you have to pay with sprint
Hope it's better than the proto hardware and software I played with.
I do agree that T-mobile and Sprint have priced the TP2 a little to high at $349 after a $100 mail in rebate. Which means you'll be paying $450 on your credit card or hard cash up front. While on VZW they offer it $50 less at $299 after rebates.
But as others have said VZW is pricey so you're better off with Sprint or Tmo since their prices are extremely lower than that if VZW. You'll defenately save hundreds of dollars if not thousands in one year in comparison with these carriers. Oh but VZW and Sprint's TP2 look so much better than Tmos. Tmos looks like a box compared to the original professional and sleek tp2. At least the other carriers have kept a similar hardware to the original model aside from the drastic color change and back covers.
its bad enough that you cannot spell but you should at least try to read better. the vzw version is 299 BEFORE the vmir. it says so right on the chart. its been quoted as a correction to someone elses false comment. and the looks of the phone can be altered by new ROMS but you dont know anything about that either. please, disinformation is better than botched reading/misquoting.
The blurb is making it sound that $299 before a $100 rebate is expensive. Are they forgetting the fact that $299 BEFORE a rebate is still $50 cheaper than what T-Mobile is asking for the phone? $199 AFTER rebate is damn cheap at this point.
Just wanted to correct that and say that it's got more than just EDGE on there, check the top left corner. UMTS, HSDPA, HSUPA
If the plans weren't so good i would jump to Verizon from Sprint. Does anyone know if i come to Verizon will they offer me a similar plan to Sprint if i call there customer service
I was soo excited about this phone. Now that it is finally here...Not so much!
Why not?
And if you're already on Verizon, $199 is a great price, considering T-Mo and Sprint want $350 for it (AR for Sprint).
screw you dude. after hearing about the pricing, this is a no brainer. i was either gonna get this, the Pre, or the Sholes when ever they came out on Verizon but my mind is made up now.
I do not see where 'great price considering' works. If I were on Sprint I would have a Palm Pre for less money(than Sprint is charging) and more memory and have it 3 months ago. If I were on T-Mobile I would have a G1 a year ago.
Neither phone companies are going to sell that many TP2s at $350. Apple changed the rules when they came out with a $200 phone. I would prefer a Pre/G1/TP2 to an Iphone, but the specs of any of thouse phones are not that different. Each of them have their own pros and cons.
Once the Sholes and TP2 are out I will look at them side by side to decide what I will get.
I think we can thank the diehards who put their Sprint Touch Pros on Verizon for this phone being uncrippled and for this price. I think Verizon learned something there. Hardware does count.
Two Comments:
WinMo 6.1? Not 6.5? I know BigRed is known for testing and retesting but let alone not to get 6.5, do we have experience if the "upgrade" to 7.0 gonna cost me/us?
Could it be that Verizon gets this phone out before ATT? Too many Iphones, too little time?
I laugh every time I read these phone forums. Everyone treats there own carriers like they are the mothers who raised them. Who cares for crying out loud. Great phone, great price, enough said.
Most likely if you purchase this online it will be $199 out the door. Verizon does not use mail in rebates when buying online. I would recommend that option, if wanting to save up front money.
i cant believe there is an arguement of price when it's so clear that sprint obliterates anyone with their price plan.
my wife and i use the unlimited plan for 129.99 with 20% corp discont we pay 103 plus tax. with verizon same plan is 119.99 PLUS! 29.99 data for each smartphone! equals 180 and only 17% discount plus the taxes are much higher at that price level. we save $50 a month x 24 = $1200. the phone is $150 more and we still save $1050 in 2 years.
verizon is a joke and i dont mind a dead spor hear and there once in a while because it's very peaceful not to have the phone ring sometimes.
sit2k: "...its very peaceful not to have the phone ring sometimes."
Really? Wow, I've got to admit that I've never heard THAT one before.
Oh and good luck with that one.
sheesh i forgot how to spell "here" and some other issues.. lol.. oh well, you guys know what i mean
I read that card a few times and did not see anything about the gps beside "vz navigator" and that means no unlocked gps. I could have missed it on that ad but i looked a few times.
guys.... in the past the pricing screenshots for verizon that all look like this one (look at the nokia twist screenshot as an example) have always had the mail-in rebate in a star-like "sale-style" shape in the bottom right corner while phone that dont include a rebate tipically say "price does NOT include a 100 mir".....
you guys are not understanding this correctly.....
all it is saying is that verizon is selling it for 300 WITHOUT a mail-in rebate....
if yu dont believe me then just do some research and look up past verizon phones without mail-in rebates
also..... the vzw tp2 will change to 299 AFTER rebate in the very near future..... the instant discount is only for the initial launch
Windows Mobile 7 Beta and Motorola Caesar.

Verizon has had a few nice phones for cheap but never the any HTC. The predecessor of this was more than anybody else recently, maybe they're trying to bring them in the fold and thier version of the Snap kicked it off
I wish people would give up on this whole "my cell phone/phone/tampon company is better than yours" agrument, it's so ridiculous. VZW works for some, Sprint works for others, AT&T works for some, and the list goes on. You're not going to get any extra money by kissing up to your company, and you're not any more important either. It's absurd, I work for one of these companies, and even I don't have the obsession with it as some of you do. They're all just big companies, they could really give a crap less whether you as an individual like or don't like their services, as long as they're getting their money, you could just as well starve and they wouldn't bat an eye. Just remember people, technologies change, companies come and go, they're not the most important or static thing in the world.
Amen!!
Jake "Really? Wow, I've got to admit that I've never heard THAT one before.

i get over 50 calls a day.... thank you for the wishes

Just before the release of Windows Mobile 6.5 you get 6.1 (and I never expect Verizon to allow it to upgrade to 6.5 based on their track record).
528 Mhz processor with TouchFlo = LAG
True it is less crippled than similar offerings from Verizon's past, but with Sholes (Android) and other Windows Mobile 6.5 devises (presumably) in the wings, this thing should drop like a rock in price fast as it sits on the shelves collecting dust once everybody starts the same old complaints:
"TouchFlo is nice, but it is still Windows Mobile 6.1 and not finger friendly under the hood"
"TouchFlo seems to cause some lag when apps start"
This appears to be the same old game, but in a pretty shell... that's all. Just another Verizon offering of a phone about 2 years too late compared with what else is out there on the market. VZWOffers on Twitter has been saying Verizon Wireless has some "awesome phones coming up, but we can't discuss details" I certainly hope they have something better up their sleeves than this.
My friend who works for Verizon said that all the newest 6.1 devices coming out, including the HTC TP2 will be 6.5 upgradeable. A lot of previous 5.0 and 6.0 devices on VZW were able to be upgraded to 6.1. Like my old Samsung i760.
I am waiting on the Omnia 2 myself...
