Samsung Rogue now official on Verizon
Time to finally give that Glyde a proper burial at sea (or recycling center, or baby cousin who needs a phone, or whatever). The oft-rumored Rogue is finally available, notably featuring a 3.1-inch AMOLED display (Verizon calls it "ultra brilliant"), a 3 megapixel cam with flash and on-board editing, microSD support up to 16GB, full HTML browsing, Microsoft Office document viewing, TouchWiz, and naturally, that full slide-out keyboard that makes it a Glyde killer. Grab it now for $99.99 on contract.

I'm looking to get this phone next weekend, the rebate is supposedly out by then, so I can get the phone and send it in, and with rebate its free. 99.99 paid upfront and 100 comes back with the rebate, so essentially free.
I don't know whether the data plan is worth it, cause the only thing I use it for is calling and texting, and I kinda want a touchscreen phone and BGR says that it has games to play. If the data plan really is a big deal for my parents, I'll just wait it out for until my dad's contract expires also, and we can just shift to At&t and we can get the new iPhone or the TouchPro2
candid much?
You don't have to get a data plan! You can get a connect or primium nation wide plan. I prefer connect.
Verizonwireless.com is offering the phone for $149.99 and a $100 Promotion credit so final cost is $49.99
Wish something like this was coming to AT&T, but att seems to be avoiding any phone that might compete with the iPhone 3GS, especially at a lower price point. Proof? HTC Touch Pro2 available on the other 3 US carriers - att, not for a few months, at least. Android on att? Nowhere to be found.
Since att's been fending off decent mid to high end phones in favor of Apple, I'll continue tweaking my free Incite refurb and enjoying it more and more. If att had released something decent at a reasonable price, I'd probably have spent money to upgrade even at the cost of extending my contract for 2 more years. Bad att. Bad.
why cant anyone make a phone like this with Andriod o/s ?? this is exactly the phone i would buy, IF it had ANDRIOD!!!!!
Uh...Samsung is making such a phone. the Samsung InstinctQ for Sprint. AMOLED screen. Landscape slideout keyboard. Etc., etc. Due in the next 60 days or so. Google it for the love of Pete...
yeah i know about the instinctQ, but it looks like crap. this phone looks slick and clean.... i want a nice looking phone with andriod, but apparently thats too much to ask for
Really excited about this? After the Glyde was such a let down. I'd wait to see. Having it's own OS is not a benefit. I'd go with anything Android or Palm... even Windows.
excellent phone def about 10 steps up from the glyde. very fast and responsive, no problems so far
I really would like to get this phone but the whole requirement to get a damn data plan really bites. I mean for $19.99 you only get 75mb, whats up with that. Gotta love Verizon's draconian plan requirements!
Go with the Connect Plan
Wait, what? You do not have to get a data plan on this phone, and data plans are only $15 anyways for non-pda.
Actually that $15 dollar plan is going bye bye, Verizon is phasing it out in favor of their new "enhanced" data plans. Which is $9.99 for 25MB or $19.99 for 75MB. You can get a connect plan which is unlimited data, but no Vcast.
@mike. this phone and the instinctQ look almost identical...
Got a chance to play around with this the other day and I was really quite impressed for a non-smartphone. The new AMOLED screen is incredibly bright and colorful, and pretty sharp as well. The keyboard might take some getting used to, and the touch response isn't as sharp as say, the Env Touch...but in general this is a 500x improvement over the Glyde and I'm quite excited about the phone.
Don't forget that crappy OS!
i second that. touchwiz has OVER 9000!!! bugs and glitches, i'm never buying a phone with it again. not to mention having a behold for 8 months with NO UPDATE AT ALL. dont know if samsung or tmobile is to blame there, but somebody's gonna end up in hell over that
I was playing with it at Verizon to huh I didnt know it was AMOLED. I didnt see much of a difference between the Env Touch's screen and the Rogue. I guess AMOLED isn't as good as people said it was.
AMOLED uses much less battery power which is its real benefit
And people have the nerve to complain about the layout of the N97, N97 Mini and N900 keyboard layout...
I know, right? The only real difference are silver accents on the InstinctQ. Otherwise, nigh identical.
Went to the Verizon store and asked about the Rogue. They pulled one out of the box. It looks really nice. Compaired it side by side to a Touch. It was smaller, maybe a bit heavier, and the screen was brighter and more colorful. I just am not sure it is worth the extra cost for data use. We will see when they get one on display if the browser will make it worth it? Not alot of other similar options other than the Touch.
Samsung Rogue is true competitor of Nokia N97, it looks more cool and best thing is it comes with Verizon store. If its OS does support Vopium and other social messaging service apps so i will go for that.
No no NO! You do not put the comma as a shifted character Samsung, bad Samsung!! Nokia made the same awful decision with the N97 and it was a deal breaker for me. Actually it was the fact that the keyboard was horrible to use AND that it had a shifted comma character. Going back to my E61 was bliss, bloody good keyboard on that phone even if it is arse ugly and tres sluggish.
I love this phone, adding music is a breeze without the iTunes hassle,The accelerometer is very responsive much like the iphone,Youtube & facebook open quickly,Also a powerful flash for good night time pics,it's got a metallic back and a sleek look all around a solid phone,You can't beat the price
i have a regular flip phone right now, if i buy the rogue do i have to get a new plan or pay any extra money each month?
You have to get a data plan which you can get for 9.99 a month
even if i dont want internet or email or im or anything? i just want to call and text
like most of you, i'm trying to avoid the data plan. I still have the unlimited mobile web ($5/month) from my original contract, will this work on this phone? or do i atleast need to get a "enhanced" plan as noted above? thanks.
Hi I was wondering about how much web browsing you can do with 25 mbs? Thx!
I called verizon to ask the same thing. The lady said you can get anywhere from 50+ pages of like myspace and facebook, and 100+ pages of normal websites which would equal 1mb so thats alot of pages you can look at with 25 mb
I got the envtouch and it was crap, the battery didn't last a half a day.So I went a got the Samsung Rogue, and the more I use it the more I like it , and I'm still having issues with the battery not lasting a long time. My biggest question is that I could put ringtones on my memory card and transfer them to my phone but this one is a stumper. Could anyone help?
Great phone, but if you want it as JUST a phone why is Verizon charging an additional $9.99 per month for Data Services if they will NEVER be used. Oh ya... $120 per year premium, guess that will pay then good won't it. When my plan ends I am going to elsewhere. Verizon has gotten just like they did with home serve PIGS and will cry when they start losing customers left and right, I hoep they go belly up.
I bought this phone as a replacement for my blackberry. My one main requirement was an SSH client, which I specifically asked the salesman about. I believe my exact words were, "I just need E-mail and SSH. It can do that, right? That's all I want - just E-mail and SSH, and taking calls. You know what SSH is, right? Secure Shell?" The whole time I got nods, smiles, "Oh yeah, just go online and download it, no problem."
Protip: no ssh client. Freakin' TouchmyWiz doesn't appear to support any of the standard mobile apps, so I can't just find a generic .jar and use it. I'm thinking, maybe I should go earn myself an assault and battery charge by placing this device somewhere a particular salesman won't easily be able to reach it.
:-/
Can you get the plan where it is $5/month and it uses your minutes when your on the web? Or is there anyway to pay for the data plan for a month then cancel and just use the phone for txting and calling?
Why oh why does the English language present such a problem for most of you? The dearth of intelligence as evidenced in this forum represents, I fear, society at large. Pick up a book and behoove yourselves.
