Sprint now offering $100 service credit to Pre buyers who port a number
We were expecting a Pre price cut today, but it looks like Sprint has slightly different plans -- instead of lowering the outright price of the handset, the carrier is offering new Pre customers a $100 service credit if they port a number from a different carrier. Yeah, that's a little odd -- especially since the credit is spread out over three months, instead of applied all in one go. We're guessing Sprint and Palm are just trying to lure new sales without having to openly cut prices on the Pre and undo its "premium" image, but as far as psychological marketing tricks go, parceling out a discount over 12 weeks might be the least effective one we can think of -- we're pretty sure most people would rather take a $100 price cut at the top end of the deal. Still, the end result is that the Pre is now $100 cheaper for switchers -- anyone running out to buy one?

No....
You know, everytime I consider trying the Pre out I remember it only has 8gb of memory. What an epic fail.
NO
I think this will make existing Sprint customers left out and they will eventually move out of Sprint too. Its demotivating to existing customers, that they don't get a good deal, just becoz they r sticking to Sprint. I STRONGLY BELIEVE THIS PLAN WILL WORK REVERSLY AND TAKE AWAY CUSTOMERS FROM SPRINT, RATHER THAN ADDING THEM.
I think Sprint should offer similar pricing for existing customers who are upgrading to Palm Pre.
Don't u think the same?
Yes, and with the TP2 being $350.00 and the TP1 being 300.00 they have lost they're F'ing minds...

Ram...What makes you so sure that this will happen your OBAMA Lover! Thats the problems with all of you self hating Liberals. You cant stand freedom of choices and capitialism. No one is gonna run away. I am sure your no damn expert. Your just a user of a wireless device.
and you conservatives who don't even know how to properly use grammar, so what is your point?
Jerry - I have an update for you. Sprint pulled off the promotion, scared of backlash from existing customers.
So I am right, and you are wrong. And don't hate anybody just because they dont think the same as you. I am fine with Obama, just an FYI.
The second I used this keyboard on this toy, I knew I would not own it... not now,.. not ever. Not at a premium prince, not at a discount. Maybe when version 2 comes around and they make it less toy and more tool.
The WebOS is interesting enough, but the hardware is miserable. It will be $79 - $99 soon enough.
I think the idea was that the Pre would bring new customers to the network - clearly that's not working in sufficient numbers...
Sprint sucks! I had been with that company for well over eleven years. I ported my number to AT and T after they failed on the Palm Pre. I had always wanted an IPHONE and since it was a phone subjected to AT and T, I decided to wait and use the crappy HTC TOUCH DIAMOND until the PALM PRE came out.
Well, my plan was a grandfathered VISION everything plan. I had six phones with this jerks. My bill was a shared 6,000 minutes and unlimited everything. Well, SPRINT basicly told me to go pound sand after I had put my name on the list for the PRE, went into the store and picked it up and while programing it they indicated that I had to change plans. WHAT THE F....
So, I told them no, I just want the phone to replace my HTC TOUCH DIAMOND. Hey, I have been around since the HITACH G1000 so you know how long I have been around. All I ever did was have the phone changed and programed with my number. THE PPC6601 and the PPC6600 all the PPC's and the HTC phones. About eight in all.
Well, Sprint did not budge and indicated that if I ported the number I would have to pay my bill in full and the 100 time 6 fine for porting my number to another carrier. I thouht they were telling me the truth.
So, after my third four hour phone call to sprint, where the retention department indicated that if they gave me any discount on my eleven year old plan that they would be fired and basicly tough luck. Pay for the PRE seperate from my other five phones. At a cost of 150 bucks for everything plan...media.
So, that same day I drove to AT and T and asked can I port these two cell numbers. The younglady said of course sir. I said how much is this IPHONE 3GS and one extra phone for my family members. She says...oh $150 dollars and we can give you a choice of five phones for free as your second phone, and you can get every thing media for $149.00 a month. I said so if you port this number it will be in this IPHONE in....ten seconds. She says yes. I go ok here is the money....let her rip.
Five minutes later. A cool IPHONE 3GS with my eleven year old Sprint number in it...and the extra phone for my family member and her number..ported as well. They synced my phone contacts and thirty minutes later I was throwing all of SPRINTS PHONES IN THE TRASH. A HTC TOUCH PRO, HTC TOUCH DIAMOND AND FOUR KATANAS.....
SPRINT SUCKS AND THEY SCREWED THEIR LOYAL CUSTOMERS. I and MILLIONS OTHER LIKE THE IPHONE BUT WAITED FOR YOUR GD PALM PRE....SO NOW GO SUCK SAND YOU BOTTOM STOCK FEEDING COMPANY.
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA....INLAND EMPIRE!
