AT&T's 3G MicroCell site goes live
We still don't have all the details we'd like on pricing and availability, but AT&T's official 3G MicroCell site is now up and running where you can enjoy some video overviews and get a good gander at what the finished product looks like (it's way better than the version briefly shown a few months back, if you ask us). Availability of an unlimited calling add-on is confirmed here, and any calls that originate on the MicroCell before being handed off to AT&T's old-school towers will be kept completely out of your minute bucket as long as you sign up for the unlimited package. Also notable is that the carrier officially recommends placing the box near a window so that its GPS receiver can get reception -- like its cousins on Sprint and Verizon, the MicroCell includes GPS so that it can't be used out of the country. So far we're not able to find a ZIP code that works with the availability checker (including the rumored limited release markets mentioned last week), so if you get through, give us a shout.

Update: ZIP code 28201 works, though it doesn't let you see plans or buy online -- it just hooks you up with the addresses and phone numbers of nearby stores. There'll be a few calls being made in the morning, eh? Thanks, ryan0816!

28201--charlotte opens the flood gates!
How about posting the LINK to the AT&T website?? jesus guys
how about just clicking the picture...
or the 'read' link at the bottom of the post...
It won't take long for someone to hack the microcell and spoof the NMEA data coming out of the GPS receiver with a microcontroller to simulate the microcell being in a "valid" location, while using it abroad :)
Exactly, they will sell a fake GPS receiver that replaces the real GPS receiver, and it will just provide a valid fixed location.
Why does AT&T need this?
Thought they had the largest voice and data coverage of all carriers... More bars more places....
Guess I was wrong and AT&T admits it.
LOL. As AT&T says "More bars in YOUR places." Hahaha.
AT&T sucks indoors just as much as everyone else.
Pricing from what I've heard so far:
$150 for the microcell. No contract or commitment required.
Optional: You can optinally get an Unlimited MicroCell plan for $20/month. All calls *placed* on the MircoCell will be free/unlmited, even if you leave the MicroCell and hand off to the cell network.
Supposedly there will be a $100 mail-in rebate for the MicroCell if you sign up for an Unlimited MicroCell plan. No word on any minimum commitment (I don't think there is one.)
More details are being divulged in this forum:

Forgot to add:
Unlimited MicroCell plans are:
$9.99 if you have AT&T landline or internet service
Free if you have both
$20 if you have neither.
Well if the only way you are going to get a discount is through having AT&T landline or internet service it bascially eliminates states where Verizon is the main TELCO. Like PA where I live.
AT&T has a very good network here in my market while VZW is horrible. I have a VZW phone for work and constantly get dropped or even if in my living room it will say "searching for signal"
overpriced. i shouldnt have to pay to make their service better. I can see a nominal fee and maybe another nominal fee for the unlimited minutes but not 150-200, and 20 bucks. AT&T landline and internet doesnt exist where i live so that discount is not optional... but theyre no diff than the others... 250 for vzw is too much and no minute pack, etc...
I don't think it's that bad. I think it'll be 100$ very soon. So for a benjamin you can pretty much guarantee full bars 3G in your house wherever you live. Luckily for me I get 2-3 bars in my house 3G. So I don't need this.
I also don't think I'd want this in my house spitting out more "radiation".
If you have AT&T landline and DSL how does this work? If you don't pay a monthly fee do you still consume your plan minutes when using the microscell?
This is going to be a battle with the ISPs in no time.
