Finally! The day we've all been waiting for!!
Or at least those of you who have iPhones...
My only question is how long will it be before the hacking community gets it out on the net for fellow 'jailbreakers'? I refuse to upgrade to 3.1 until a workaround (for Windows) is found. Hopefully this won't take too long. I have lots of MMSing to make up for. LOL
This is just a carrier update. As long as you're on at least 3.0, your MMS will work, because MMS was apart of 3.0. I too am waiting for the jailbreak of 3.1. I've read that there are some battery issues with 3.1, so I may just wait for the next update. But we should be good to go if you're at least at 3.0
How much is AT&T going to charge per each MMS ? I don't think MMS is included in the data plan, right ?
I am pretty positive it's included with the text messaging plan.
MMS has never been included with any data plan. I don't care what phone you have. And it was the same with tmobile, verizon, and I assume sprint. It has always been included with a text messaging plan though. So if all you have is data but no messaging you will have to pay for each picture message you send. Just like when you send a normal text message it's 10 cents a message I believe. I dunno because I have always had unlimited.
no its not, but if you have a messaging package (unlimited, 1500, whatever) its included with that. Otherwise standard fees apply I'm guessing....
DSLReports claims to have received word from a source noting that AT&T is extremely nervous about the impending launch of MMS for the iPhone scheduled for this Friday. Early testing of the service has apparently already placed a strain on the company's MMS servers, resulting in a test outage yesterday and a last-minute rush to beef up capacity beyond the measures already taken.
AT&T and its MMS partners are already seeing "record traffic during peak hours of the night" with just the users selected for testing.
That early testing has been a little rocky, with AT&T seeing a fairly significant test outage yesterday that has them rushing to beef up their MMSC messaging servers. Estimates among those working on the project are that traffic on AT&T's wireless network will be about 40% higher all day on Friday as iPhone users fire pictures and video at one another.
The source also revealed AT&T's plans for rolling out the service on Friday, with deployments scheduled in groups to begin at 10:00 AM Eastern time and new groups being activated on an hourly basis after that in order to slowly ramp demand and gauge service performance.
"Starting at 10AM Eastern (on the 25), AT&T will send out a mass text to a group of iPhone users telling them that MMS now works on their phone," says one source familiar with AT&T's MMS plans. "They will keep doing groups of phones on the hour throughout the day" assuming all goes well, says the source.
This confirms what i've been thinking the whole time. The MMS delay issue wasn't network constraints, but the MMSC servers. :P MMS isn't that big of a deal on the network front, but when it comes to the MMS servers...different story (since the load is more concentrated).
The carrier settings have been leaked for over a week now. I'm not jailbroken and have been MMSing like crazy. It all seems to come from my 1500/month plan.
What does "AT&T Free Msg" means? can you receive an SMS (which is not from a pay-per-sms service you signed up for - like news, etc.) that is not free?
Do you people at the US pay for INCOMING sms as well?!
Yes, every text in or out counts either as a per charge or as a deduction off our package (200/1500/unlimited).
Nice that AT&T finally pulled themself together because there is various carriers around the globe that have had MMS for iPhone for a while now.

Take from AT&T Wireless' support page:
Question:
Is Multimedia Messaging (MMS) available for iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS?
Answer:
Yes, Multimedia Messaging is available for iPhone 3G and 3GS. The software update can be downloaded from iTunes. Our goal is to deliver a more seamless and enhanced MMS experience on iPhone. As part of that effort, viewmymessage.com is no longer needed, and is replaced by full MMS capability directly on your iPhone 3G and 3GS device.
I just got a message from Itunes that there was a carrier update to my phone. I said yes, but I don't see anything changed.
