Ballmer: Windows Mobile 7 should have been out, like, yesterday

It wasn't all that long ago that Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer proudly declared that Windows Mobile 7 would be out "sometime next year," but it looks things got a bit more real at the company's just-concluded Venture Capital Summit, where Ballmer reportedly said that he wished Windows Mobile 7 had already launched by now. That initial word comes from venture capitalist Paul Jozefak (or @pjozefak), who also tweeted that "Ballmer says they screwed up with Windows Mobile," while another attendee, @beninato, directly quotes Ballmer as saying that Microsoft has "pumped in some new talent," and that "this will not happen again." Steve Ballmer's fists could not be reached for comment.

I don't know you but at least the guy seems honest.
No problem, as long as Windows Mobile 7 is heck worth it, I'll gladly wait a bit more.
But it BETTER be worth it...
I think yesterday might have been a bit too late anyways.
I kinda wish they would have just skipped 6.5 and gone straight to 7.
They probably should have gone straight to 7, but seeing as how this release keeps getting pushed back, Ballmer more than likely ordered 6.5 to be put into production. Again, probably as a stop gap measure to keep MS from loosing too much ground in the smart phone OS arena.
Don't you see a reoccurring theme with microsoft? IE haven't updated in years focuces on that, won't happen again, vista took to long focus on that never happens again, windows mobile haven't really done anything, won't happen again...
I think Microsoft is to big for its own good.
That could possibly be it
Damn straight they screwed up on Windows Mobile. It's about time they admitted it. WinMo sucks bad and it's about time for a refresh. Let's hope 7 is good.
i really don't agree that it sucks. i use it daily and it may looked really dated, but functionality and compatibility wise, it does exactly what i need it to do.
I agree, wm doesn't suck. It's hard to use out of the box, but once you put some time into it, it's one hell of an OS with great versatility.
I also agree that it does NOT suck. It's the most similar smartphone OS to my personal computer out there. I can do whatever I want on it quite easily too.
Since I'm being cynical today...
'Not only do I lack the dexterity in my extremities to use my fingernail to press this rather small X button on this touchscreen device, but I would also much rather have a flashy interface that makes me warm and fuzzy inside but to be functionally only skin-deep. I also blatantly ignore a few UI enhancements that are available for this aging mobile operating system and really couldn't care less about any real productivity software in general, regardless.
That's really all I'm hearing...
WinMo or Pocket PC has been around for the technological equivalent of eons. For your average iphone user? Hell no it isn't intuitive. But if you're at all familiar with Windows you should have no issues adjusting to WinMo 6.1-. WM 6.5 is giving you and the rest of the anti-MS crowd the finger friendliness and intuitive interface apparently required in order to keep people from spewing rather idiotic blanket statements like 'WinMo sucks bad' as soon as they see a Microsoft Windows logo just because it might be slightly more difficult for them to type something into twitter.
So if you'll excuse me, I'll be over here managing a data center via Citrix, pulling in e-mail from 6 different mail accounts all on separate mail servers and running a few SQL statements from my (apparently sucktastic) WinMo 6.1 phone. Guess what? There ISN'T an app for that.
@Rojo
Okay ... you apparently are out of the loop when it comes to iPhone apps. Yes, There is an app for absolutely EVERYTHING you just mentioned. I can already pull email from several mail servers. I do work at a data center where I manage Unix servers and so I ssh using pTerm. If I did have to use Citrix, we have Citrix Receiver from Citrix Systems. I can run SQL statements and query to my hearts content using a number of SQL clients including Flipper. I RDP using my Wyse PocketCloud software which can also do VMware view. And you know what? All of those clients do it better than their winmo counterparts. I have RDP from WInMo before and it has NEVER gotten me speedy access without jitter. The clients we get on iPhone are 100% smooth on 3Gs.
Windows 7.0 is coming,is windows 6.0 out? http://global-cell-phones.com/smart-phone.html
Ballmer is absoluetly correct about Windows Mobile 7. But then why do they do this? http://bit.ly/C2XKJ
