Palm Pre going for a nice, round $100 on contract at Amazon

This isn't the first time we've seen a Pre for $100, but coming from Amazon, the legitimacy level is at an all-time high. If you're up for a contract renewal, it begs the question why you wouldn't do this over... oh, pretty much anywhere else where you're still paying the recently-reduced $149 rate -- and it also makes you wonder just how much price pressure's going to be on the Pixi's diminutive shoulders by the time it launches.

1. Palm Pre sales good in recent quarter (~600k), but not enough to stem losses completely. Analysts worried about company's future.
2. Palm announces Pixi.
3. Palm inks deal with O2 for GSM Pre.
4. Verizon nixes carrying Pre.
5. Elevation invests $35 million in secondary offering.
6. Palm wristslapped by USB-IF on iTunes syncing.
7. Amazon $99.99 deal.

That's a whole lot of treading water there.

Let me first say that I am a proud owner of Pre and I love it. The naysayers complain about the small keyboard. It's not a deal breaker, besides my newly installed virtual keyboard works in both landscape and portrait with haptic feedback to boot. So the $100 price point is a good thing, as it's now priced the same as an iPhone. As a S|P (Sprint Premiere) member I'm afforded the ability to get a new handset every year, but I love my Pre so much that I just may get the Hero and sell it without even activating it! Cant wait to see what treasures OS 1.2 brings to the table:)
