Motorola CLIQ's box filled with excitement, hope
Remember how exciting the original G1's box was? It had all these colorful squares on it and laser-cut "G1" text across the top -- a true packaging classic. Of course, T-Mobile had to raise the bar yet again with the materials on the myTouch 3G, so it came in a nifty hard-shell nylon zippered carrying case. Is it even possible to top that? Probably not -- and it looks like they're not even trying with the CLIQ, which looks like it'll just be coming in a conventional cardboard box with exciting graphics teasing MOTOBLUR's social capabilities. Realistically, the odds of holding on to the packaging for more than about 30 seconds -- the time it takes to tear everything out of it -- are slim to none anyway, so really, they could've put a picture of a Renew on there and we would've been just fine.

that must have been a pretty damning photo if they needed to black-out the sides
I can't wait to get my hands on one of them! I'm sick of my iPhone and AT&T's sub-par service. Long live Moto! Blur?
I ditched my iPhone 3gs for the Hero's Android joy I never regretted one little tiny bit.
If anything this Moto looks even better than my hero, , which would be the perfect smartphone if it had a bigger screen and voice dialing (which is coming).
Why Moto is'nt selling this thing in Europe too?
@PedS -- Isn't it beautiful? You can pre-register to get a Cliq beginning Oct. 19th here: http://t-mobile.com/CLIQ
In the meanwhile, I would register for more information about the phone because you'll be entered in a sweepstakes to win a free one (sure beats paying for it). I'm working with T-Mobile (they're running the whole promotion) and they're giving away one Cliq a day through the 19th, plus four all-inclusive VIP trips around the US, just for registering. Not a bad deal :-)
wow that box is really big for such a small phone, they should really make a smaller box. that box doesn't look environmentally friendly at all.
Excitement? Somewhat.......Hope? None...since they annoucement the 200 bucks for the phone (and that's with new 2 yr contract / full upgrade).
I mean....200 bucks? really? My G1 only cost 189 and I got it during launching day also. I got lucky that the rep waived my upgrade fee (or that will be extra 20 something bucks).
I don't see paying 220 (fee included) bucks for a phone with slightly wider but shorter screen, slightly more RAM, and slightly better keyboard/dpad compared to my G1. it's pretty much same OS, same CPU, same radios (GPS, 3G, Wifi, BT, etc....the Cliq doesn't even have regular FM receiver for god's sake), same functions and features.
I almost jump the Tmobile ship to sprint but Tmobile turned on the 3G in my area...and it is fast.
also filled with terrible battery life due to all of the social networking using polling instead of push.
