AT&T's HTC Tilt 2 coming October 18? (updated)

Update: We were just sent an internal AT&T memo that says the Tilt 2 is actually being stocked and sold to business customers as of today, but that it won't go widely on sale until the 18th. So, our question stands, with an addendum -- anyone planning on pretending to a businessperson today in order to grab one?

Not unless it has a 3.5mm headset jack, but I read AT&T took it off both this and the Pure, while other carriers kept it on. BAD MOVE AT&T!!!
AT&T didn't take off the 3.5mm, this was HTC's fault. If at&t didn't want you to have 3.5...then why the hell does the Pure come with an audio dongle to make up for HTC's lack? In addition, the EU Touch Pro 2, Touch Diamond 2, and Touch 2 don't have 3.5mm either. Please remove your tin foil hat.
OH yea forgot to add, Tmobile's touch pro 2 does not have 3.5mm either...blame HTC.
Doesn't the Imagio have a 3.5mm headset jack? Verizon's version of the Pure.
No, it isn't the same phone as the pure, they are a bit different.
I'm planning to grabbing one when they ACTUALLY come out with it! It's been FOREVER! BGR reported that it was suppose to come out today but nothing!
It's not like AT&T is doing SO much extra to the phone that its taking them this long to release it. geez!
If they are releasing it with WinMo 6.5 that 3 weeks vs. the others is a good reason.
Yeah.....when and if they offer it at much less than the current ridiculous price, meaning somewhere well under $200. They'll be bending me over for two years. I won't pay them a bonus up front for the privilege.
You guys are idiots. The GSM variant doesn't include the 3.5mm headset jack, but the CDMA one does. Contracts are part of the business, get over yourself and buy the phone out right if you don't want to be "bent over."
They are available today over the phone at least. I believe you do have to have the business affiliation (FAN number), but NBO ordered one for me today. The rep said it's not in their pricing grid yet, but it is in the ordering system at $349.99 with a 2yr commitment. The rep also said it's $539.99 without a commitment...? Don't know where that price came from. But I did order one today and got the confirmation e-mail and everything stating the correct phone.
After hearing about the Leo coming to the US in Q1 of next year, I think I'll wait until then. My original Tilt is still doing OK for now.
No keyboard and as a tilt 1 user, doesnt that bug you?
Pardon the interuption. Can someone explain something to me? I am a VZ customer with a VX6800 aka the tilt 1. I am considering the move to AT&T with the tilt2 or the iphone. What concerns me is with a move to an Iphone if while I am on the train daily listening to an approved Iphone app internet radio or other data hungry apps that is probably gonna get me over the limit for AT&T data plan. So what happens to the 2 year committment I have if they boot me out for going over. It is up to 3 scenarios or am I missing something?
1. The charge me overages for data use. And if so how does this work?
2. The cancel my contract and I get to keep a brand new iphone.
3. They warn me and I don't get to use the data feature as much and have to limit myself moving forward.
Thanks!
You'll either be forced to pay for the unlimited data plan or your stuck paying the overages at a certain rate per kb.
Thanks Kevin. But from what I've read here on other posts, the "unlimited" data plan is not really unlimited.
@gomobile - I have 4 family members (including me), 3 with iPhones, on AT&T unlimited data and we haven't had any cap issues so far. Maybe if you stream videos 24 hrs. a day. OR... more likely... if you use your phone tethered to a PC and use a huge amount of bandwidth (ie - torrenting), they'll probably nail you.
@deneb - It's taken forever because AT&T has been eliminating or delaying smartphone launches for the last couple of years to drive more people to the iPhone. They make up to 400% more revenue on iPhone contracts, plus they need to move huge volumes to keep their exclusive contract. Notice how the UK & Canadian carriers lost their exclusivity recently?
Overall - the lack of a 3.5mm jack and the pricing kill this phone for me. Add in that it's running the same 528MHz proc that's powered most smartphones for the last 2 years. The new crop of chips (Snapdragon, Tegra, et al) have me waiting. It's easy to keep delaying for the next big thing, but with a paradigm shift like double the proc speed and even larger increases in proc POWER, investing in the last evolution of the current gen products just doesn't make sense for me.
I have never gotten charged for data overages with the iPhone on AT&T but then again I have never gone over ~5GB. I find that AT&T is really easy when it comes to disputing a bill. They made a mistake and charged me the overages for international data even though I had an international data plan. One 5 minute phone call and $800 taken off the bill. But I doubt you will get data overages so hopefully you won't even have to worry about that.
With the unlimited data plan on iPhone, there is no cap, no overages. Big plus of having an iPhone.
And WTF it's listing me a unknown is unknown.
You want to down grade networks? Okay.
I called and threatened to cancel my account b/c of the bum iPhone i have. Im not eligible for an upgrade, but with threat im not being setup with a Tilt2 and no upgrade fee w/2 year contract. This was on the 6th.... they called today to say they had them in stock. Im still 3 months from my early upgrade time too.
Edit...... "I am being setup with a Tilt 2"
I checked again. Sprint and Verizon Touch Pro 2 do indeed have 3.5mm jacks. I knew I'd read that the others had 3.5mm jacks and wasn't going nuts, LOL!
This was supposed to be a reply to my post above, the reply system still sucks!
I'm really sick and tired of people stomping their feet like P.O.'d teenagers over the lack of a 3.5mm jack. There are plenty of other alternatives out there other than a 3.5mm jack -- plus the phone comes with an adapter that really isn't bulky. There has got to be better things to b*tch about other than crying about a dongle/adapter for a 3.5mm input jack.
That being said, being a user of a T-Mobile TP2, I have not been disappointed at all. I'm sure AT&T users will feel the same way, except maybe for the weird QWERTY layout being different than other similar models from other carriers. But it is, just like the 3.5mm jack, nothing to really complain about.
Dongles are a PITA. Just another thing you have to worry about losing or misplacing. I have other phones with a convenient 3.5mm jack and NO stupid dongle to worry about, so going back to one is not an option for me. Obviously there's more serious things to worry about like phone performance. But having to search for dongles online if one didn't come in the box, or if you did get one in the box but have to replace if you lose it just made me dislike them. They often use the charge or sync port, so you have to keep unplugging them. It's just a personal pet peeve of mine.
JMO, obviously you don't agree. But I'm pretty disappointed that some Touch Pro 2s have simple convenience and others don't.
My spin on this is forget about the jack and cut the wire. Go to stereo bluetooth headphones. Nowadays they're about $35. You've got this great souped up phone and now you're going to attach a wire to it? That's uncool.
I'm sick and tired of other people telling me what features I want and should have...especially on a phone of this caliber in this day and age for the price they are asking. HTC has been lacking in the 3.5mm for quite a long time now, and at this point in time with many other phones including 3.5mm, HTC is really lacking. So yea, people should make noise and complain.
And no, I don't want another phone, I want a damned TILT 2 on AT&T with a 3.5mm headphone jack LIKE IT SHOULD HAVE FUCKING HAD IN THE FIRST DAMNED PLACE. I also don't want some stupid fat dongle that I have to keep track of. HTC FAIL!
Business Portal: $829.99 after 50.00 rebate! wow.
Ha I'm also seeing the $829.99. Only $730 more than the other carriers... it's a steal!
I've been using the original Tilt for just under 2 years now (contract ends mid-November). They would have to pay me 300 bucks just to get me to consider buying this piece of crap. Same lousy screen, same lousy camera, same lousy weight, same lousy price, same lousy (upgraded) OS. Thanks, but I'm going Android this time around.
it is now available through the AT&T Premier website.
Just called about 4 stores after being told yesterday that the phone would be available in store today (Oct. 9th) or Monday (Oct. 12th). Now I call today and they say the 18th. Any able to get one in store, or is everyone getting the, "Available October 18th" phrase?
From what I read, the included dongle + a cheap ipod video cord and a free download = On television viewing.
hey, I'm switching to AT&T soon & I was wondering if I should get the Tilt2 or the iPhone. Which phone do you guys think is better? and why? thanks!♥
Tilt2 hands down its even insurable just in case something happens cant say that about the iphone
