AT&T ponies up $60 unlimited GoPhone plan
It may not be the cheapest unlimited around -- Boost, Cricket, and MetroPCS have all gone lower -- but AT&T figures that it can throw its network and brand recognition around as bargaining chips to get customers to pay $60 a month for pay-as-you-go unlimited voice and messaging through the company's GoPhone prepaid brand. The zinger here is that the plan also includes texting to Canada, Mexico, and 100 other countries, so it's actually a pretty good deal if you've got a lot of buddies chilling in Calgary or Cancun. It'll be available starting October 12, but there's nothing stopping you from lining up now outside your AT&T store -- just be prepared for some odd stares.[Via Phone Scoop]

And yet us normal people with contacts are stuck paying $100 a month for the same thing? I thought contracts were suposed to give you a BETTER deal?
Guess I could have used some contacts myself. I meant to say contracts.
The prepaid network isn't the same size as the Post paid network
Its the same damn network lol.
actually it's not the same network. pay as you go, which this is considered only uses at&t towers...it doesn't roam on other companies towers. the eastern half of the country is pretty much the same, but the western half is much different.
If you're looking to save a few bucks. Checkout http://www.tminetworks.com
They're giving serious discounts on plans. Some plans have more minutes than if you went direct. They must be a wholesaler of some sort.
I wouldn't touch that site if I were you.

Thanks for the info! I actually just picked up Blackberry 8330 from them. It was free so i guess i escaped any dangers. Usually you have to pay out 50 bucks for that phone. I guess they had some issues with rebates. I never go for the rebate offers cuz you never get it.
Makes me wonder bout this AT&T offer. Is it really just 60? I know they had some issues with the definition 'unlimited' a year or so back. Verizon FTW!
So I pay $90 for 450 anytime minutes and ulimited data and text. Then they charge you up the wazzu for international SMS. Give me SMS to Canada and Mexico on my post paid and I will be thrilled.
funny how at&t gets blasted on this site for anything they do and has about 150 post within an hour...they announce an awesome deal like this and there aren't even 10 post...
Engadget Mobile never gets 150 comments...your probably thinking of Engadget.

Coverage varies in some states...
Int'l SMS for 100(!) countries! Not just Canada, and Mexico. I use it all the time, and there is a feature for 100 Int'l available lol...Pre-paid getting better deals sometimes is rare but nothing new.
There's a rumor going around that a daily access charge will go along with this plan, can anybody confirm?
Probably not a daily access charge but perhaps the $60 will expire in 30 days, creating in-effect a $2/day charge.
Big rumour over at T-Mobile is that they are planning to roll out $50 "Everything Unlimited" plans which include minutes, text and data. If this holds water this would cause a big price war and you will see better plans than $60 on Death Star's pre-paid network.
Drools.
I'm already on the $50 unlimited plan and loving it, but paying $25 extra for data and text. Already no post-paid can touch it. I'd be shocked if T-Mobile did that.
What I meant to say was that with the gophone, the coverage is not nearly as good. There are large gaps in the west and mid-west in coverage. GoPhone does not give you roaming of any kind. In the end, the best deal on voice, text, and data (on phone only) is Straight Talk Wireless. I have been using them for three months and it will take a hail mary for me change.
I think you people forget that at&t rollsover unused minutes;I believe you can recharge before the 30 day experation date and keeps the money you had before. It is like E-Z PASSl;it stays in the bank longer if you don't use it and keeps rolling over when you don't. But watch out;I think you can't have anything more than $500 or a $1000 bankrolled in the pre-paid accounts (Pick you plan or pay as you go). I know that was the case with the old AT&T Wireless Go-Phone account that I had prior to switching to a contract plan.
