Yes, download the 3.1.2 firmware update and then run blackra1n on it...works on all iphone models out of the box. And in less than 30 seconds!
Cheers. I've heard bad things about running blackra1n on Windows 7 though. What OS did you use?
I have an iPhone 3GS that shipped with 3.1, but instead of jailbreaking I've gone back to real phones that actually ship with the features I need - HTC Hero and Sony Ericsson dumbphones.
The stop trolling the iPhone blogs. Jeesh, this crap gets old.
I've jailbroken 3 iPhone 3GS's with blackra1n and not 1 problem. I used Windows Vista and also tried on Windows 7

Blackra1n worked on my 3gs with software 3.1 I didn't need to update to use blackea1n
I just used this on my 3GS. I picked up it up new from AT&T a few days ago, so it's running running 3.1. This app works flawlessly. Just 1 click and it jailbreak it. I was bumped to find out that Dev Team didn't have a way to jailbreak it since my old iPhone 3G broke but I am rocking my Jailbroken apps again so I am pretty happy.
Not working on properly on iPhone 3G, Neohotz admitted on Twitter "3G is flaky".
It's fine on 3GS and iPods.
What kind of problems are you having? Just curious b/c I was going to jailbreak my 3G this evening...
Can somebody please make an app that’s adds asterisk to the email screen so I know which account got an email? I've got 7 accounts on my iphone and I never know which account got the mail. I'm thinking about getting a blackberry because of this.
Why not just back out of all the mail accounts so it shows you the list? I have multiple accounts in mine and it shows a number next to the accounts that have unread mail. But the mail app on the iphone sucks, especially if you don't have a data connection such as flying on a plane, as I ran into traveling to Spain this past summer.
tried to jailbreak iphone 3g 3.1.2 using blackra1n but phone wont complete reboot sequence ( when blackra1n logo shows on startup ). damn thing just keeps coming out of recov mode and goes back to normal !!
WTF am i doing wrong ??
I have the very same problem. Hit the "make it rain" and it starts looking for the iphone. When it connects the logo to connect to Itunes comes up on the phone and it just hangs there. Unplug and it says the blackra1n is finished and will come up on reboot. NOT... Tried many different ways but none worked.
BTW, my desktop was W7 so I tried it on the laptop which was XP but with the same result. I guess I should have waited to make a donation to actually see if it worked. Oh well, my loss.
I did it. Don't know exactly how. Just kept trying and finally got geohot logo and everything went on from there. I guess my donation was worth it.
What hapen with my orginal and any other apple app after jailbreaks my iPhone 3gs????
