AT&T makes white Bold official: October 18 for $199.99
RIM kinda already spilled these beans last week at CTIA, but just for good measure, AT&T went ahead and officially announced the white version of the BlackBerry Bold today, and it's exactly as we expected: the launch will come on October 18 for the same price as the black version -- so unless they cut the black's price between now and next week, we're looking at $199.99 on contract after rebate. That's a lot to pay for a year-old phone when the successor is seeming weeks away (at most), but then again, we'll admit it, the white accents suit this phone insanely well -- so well, in fact, that it almost qualifies as a new model as far as we're concerned. Are we crazy?

Blackberry: "Oh @#$% we got a bunch of Bolds sitting around in a warehouse in China!"
ATT: "Hmmm how about you throw a white face plate on it and we'll market it as a new phone!"
Blackberry: "Sweet idea!!"
Rim trying to copy Nokia's E71. Too bad Nokia is ahead of the curve.
Dude, this is a Bold, not a Curve.
Ok this is one heck of a good looking phone! I want this so baaaaad :)
Still using trackball? How do you pan the map display? LOL
If you are a pimp then I guess this is the phone for you!
Will probably go over well with the same crowd that buys White Laptops and MP3 players sporting white earbuds. Perhaps this will take the place of the old 8310 & 8320 at the bottom of the line.
I'm doubting that! The 8900 will be taking the place of those two, I would assume. That, and maybe an 8520 type device, if it comes to AT&T.
I would think the 9000 would take the place of the 8820, but maybe not, since there's no camera free edition.
Either way, I wouldn't be surprised if this and the Black model both go to $199 once the 9700 release date is announced.
They already make a phone for those people.

@Joe The 8900 and 8520 both lack 3G. Which I guess makes then fine "low end" devices, but they seem to be (while newer) a step down from the 83X0 line.
@Paul Well... true... but it isn't WHITE. :-)
On a related note: Bell will be offering the 9700 soon.

All this means is that the 9700 won't be coming to at&t anytime soon.
Why would you buy this phone when you already have the black one?
Just order the white parts from cnn.cn when they come out.
The phone looks ugly to me. I'm not sure why BGR and others still wet their pants for Blackberries.
