Motorola Droid (alias Sholes) finally gets a decent headshot
At last eluding the omnipresent Mr. Blurrycam, Motorola's Android-powered Sholes handset has finally gotten the sort of photography it deserves, apparently with an official go-to-market name of Droid -- or at least one decent photo of it. This pic, which doesn't really confirm or deny any of our suspicions about the device (Verizon was already in the bag), made a berth on the locked Twitter profile of Boy Genius, and hopefully there's more where this came from: we're getting tired of the tease.

Last I heard, Android 2.0 wasn't coming out till 2010. But the firmware version shows 2.0. Does that mean that Android 2.0 will be release this year?
The firmware version isnt the same thing as the OS version.
for android it is
No, nghiaz, it isnt. For a lot of phones the android OS is only a part of the firmware as a whole.
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I thought it was coming out later in 2010 as well. Oh well, this picture doesn't actually confirm that it will be shipping out with android 2.0. That could just be a really early beta version for all we know. Let's keep our fingers crossed regardless.
This phone is looking good. It might be the reason to go back to Verizon. I'm looking for an Android phone with a decent screen size, slim design, physical keyboard, and 5 mp camera with flash. The graphic accelorator may mean some good gaming too when Android 2.0 comes out. The closest thing (IMO) to this would be Samsung's Moment, but it looks to plastic.
I wonder how the battery is going perform and how the videos will look.
cliq, now this,, why isnt at&t getting any of the new motos?
Looks ok, but touch sensitive buttons and what looks like the opposite of HTC's chin... not sure if I want...
Also Verizon, do not want.
I think I will go with the Storm 2...
Will the Sholes play Flo mobile tv like the Imagio?
Although I believe in all the conjecture running rampant over the last couple months regarding the "Droid's" specs, I find it difficult to accept that Android 2.0 will be making an appearance with it at release. But that could just be years of Verizon repression lashing out (MT resident). Nevertheless, if it is indeed official, I would expect this jewel to hit the shelves right before Black Friday. That would give it time with possible "polishing up" stages of 2.0. Hopefully I end up eating my words and the "Droid" is released this month - 2.0 and all! Thy fingers are crossed.
But perhaps the real question is, will a giant Eclair be joining the troops outside of the Googleplex? And after 23 updates to the OS, will they just replace all the pastries with a Dr. Pepper?
I need to know one thing. It's marketed and listed as a smartphone. Does that mean I don't need data?
No data/Wifi Only, sign me up.
Data, forget it.
Does anyone know? Please?
Smartphones are the only phones that require a data plan with Verizon, with the small exception of the Rogue.
Should I pull the trigger on the Touch Pro II or hold out for the Sholes, someone help me decide, and how much longer am I going to have to wait. I'm looking for the best Verizon has to offer, i'd hate to renew my contract and something better shows up.
Thanks in advance for the input.
I think you should wait. The tp2 is great and all but honestly, WM sucks. and 6.5 still sucks too. Microsoft in general sucks. because they have such a huge imprint on the world that they do not waste time and money into developing anything new that is ACTUALLY new. Catching my drift? Microsoft touches up a few things on the same product from 2003 and introduces it as a "totally new" windows.
You should def wait my friend because...
Sholes/Droid comes out real soon.
Storm 2 comes out sometime between now and black friday.
Hero comes out next month.
Pre in February.
and Sholes tablet (no physical keyboard, 8MP camera, HD video and HDMI) in Q1 2010
These will all be awesome phones, Jump on board with Android, in time it will make apple look like shit, and it will become #1 in the world. You can bank on that.
