Verizon confirms: Palm Pre hitting Big Red "early next year"
Oftentimes a picture shouts a thousand words. Other times it belts out precisely a dozen. Straight from Verizon Wireless' official Twitter account comes this, a confirmation that the Palm Pre we knew was coming to Big Red, well, is coming to Big Red. If you can hold off through the tempting holiday rush, you'll find Palm's first-ever webOS device on VZW "early next year." Huzzah!

The Pre may be the best Palm product ever, but it's still no iPhone.
It doesn't want to be an iPhone, and why would it? It has better functionality. Apple can keep it's "functionality" and performance... one app at a time. It's like the brightest kid in the class with a learning disorder.
Agreed. The elegance of WebOS, even in it's infancy is astounding. In no way can I knock the iPhone for what it does. it's a great device...
But I wonder if in some ways it's the ultimate execution of the rotary phone, with the Pre as the first touch-tone device on the block.
Asia, I just don't see the limitations as an issue. The "more than one app at a time" issue only slows the device down, doesn't make it better. My iPhone is fast enough that it's not an issue to jump back and forth. but as Riz says, we'll probably be amazed at what our "phones" look like in 5 year. I remember getting a Sony Clie, and was amazed how great it was, but thinking, if only it had a phone.... Now it's a toy for my 4 year old....
i do l;ike my pre more then the iphone
but one thing is for sure if it wasnt for the iphone palm would still be making only those crappy treos good for nothing and we wouldnt have a blackberrry storm or an android phone not even a pre
wich is good cause that made all other manufacturers get better and come with better ideas
so all i can say is
thanks apple thanks iphone
and are data prices will send folks running back to any other carrier.
Why would I want a CDMA phone that doesn't work anywhere else in the world?
Call me when the GSM Pre is available in America. I'll start caring about Verizon when they light up LTE and gets on a worldwide standard.
@ Shane
Verizon is having Palm add GSM to the phone for over seas. I think most of Verizons PDA phones will have GSM/GPRS/EDGE/(and even some with)HSDPA.
would have gotten this closer to launch, considering the lack of decent pdas at verizon, especially at the time. But too many exciting phones coming out, once again verizon is late to the party.
Verizon has always been that way. 5 years ago, my employer made me carry separate personal and work phones. My work phone was always ATT/CIngular/ATT, and my personal phone was Verizon. I was with ATT when they switched on GSM, and my first Blackberry was with ATT as well. Eventually my employer saw the light, and allowed me to be reimbursed for using my personal phone for work. I dropped Verizon and switched to ATT. The service issues I had with Verizon in my area (Michigan/Ohio/Indiana) and lack of leading edge devices made it an easy switch. Brought my parents over on my account as well. 2 iPhones, 2 basic Nokias for less than $150/month, and better service to boot. I can draw holes all over Verizon's "Theres a map for that" map of their alleged Michigan coverage. The real Verizon map of Michigan looks like swiss cheese!
I hope this version includes the expandable MicroSD slot that seems to be appearing in Mexico. That and the upgraded build quality that it seems like Palm's been working on and I'm sold.
Only the rest of October, November, December and the portion of January until this is released! I'm all for it -- they tried to sell me on an HTC touch pro 2. No offense to a soldly built phone, I like the Pre better.
Jesus Christ, these morons at Verizon can tell us that the Pre will be coming to VZW the beginning of 2010 as far back as this past July, but try to ask for even the tiniest crumb of information about the Omnia II, and suddenly all is silence.
Why does everything need to be such a big damned secret?
Oh well, doesn't matter. If Verizon doesn't step up it's competition in the price/value arena, this will be my last contract with them anyway. My Dad has T-Mo, and even get's a signal in his house (I can't on Verizon), and Project Dark is looking pretty interesting...
