It's been a long, long time since Emblaze Mobile and ACCESS engaged in
holy cellphone matrimony, and the fruit of that relationship is finally coming to bear. It's called ELSE INTUITION, a Linux-based mobile platform that comes with such a hyperbolic press release that we can't help but think every other mobile manufacturer should just pack up and go home. It's said to match the functionality of "top ranked MP3 players, best-in-class GPS devices, and more, while maintaining an exceptional ease and simplicity of use." Golly. At this point we only have a few images to go by, and though they do look plenty nice, we wouldn't consider our minds blown just yet -- particularly those of us with a left-handed bias. Remember, ACCESS is the company that
turned Palm OS into Garnet OS and then failed to win anyone over with its
Access Linux Platform, so what could go wrong here? What's it going to be, readers:

I am extremely hesitant to try anything by Access.

PalmOS died because these people couldn't get off their butts and release an update for a decade. They were a bunch of slackers who were so lifeless, Palm put them on a boat, set it on fire, and pushed it out into a sea
Perhaps being left for dead was just the motivation they needed?
My thoughts exactly. Promising vaporware, but vaporware nonethenless.

Looks good. I'd imagine you place a finger at some point of the corner for a sort of function, hold it, and then as the menu appears where your finger is you move it over to the feature you want to use. Release, and done. Now maybe someone could write such a thing for Android? There are many things that could be done with it, speed dial, quickly starting an application or even multitasking (hold a finger on the screen for a second or two and a menu pops up with a list of the running applications? Maybe with a screenshot?). Hello Android devs? Anyone listening?
For every single function you mentioned (and for many more beside) there are free apps to download on the Android Market.
The only huge gap in the market's offerings is a voice dialing app.
It existed only in the american version og the G1 and then vanished from all other Android handsets.
I am obliged to spend most of my waking time driving a car, so this omission and the smallish screen for satnavigation are the main reasons that keep me from using my beloved HTC Hero (eu version) as my primary phone.
This ELSE UI looks interesting but I'm plenty happy with Sense UI for the moment and I would need some pretty compelling reasons for adopting a new one.
A well working voice dialing app like the one I enjoyed on my old N95 and N95 8gb (and that Nokia managed to screw up on the N97) could well be a compelling reason.
I'm not talking about apps that do the task but an interface to access them this way. And maybe make Android work this way... anyway that's how I suppose Else Intuition will work... and it does make sense to me.
