TomTom iPhone kit now being sold through US Apple Store
American TomTom loyalists, we know what you've been thinking: how dare those fine folks across the pond get first dibs to pick up the iPhone car kit? Well, steam to yourself no longer, it's now for sale online via Apple's US store for the previously-disclosed price of $119.95. Alas, no software's included, but you've had enough time to cope with that. Also, it's iPhone 3G and 3GS only -- iPod touch need not apply.

I still can't believe it. $119.95?!?
Works with iPhone 2G/classic as well!
if you include the price of the TomTom app, it would cost over 200.00 . That's plain ridiculous. Maybe I would spend 120 bucks for it if it included the app. I do think it is a nice car mount but not nice enough to warrant the price.
You are so right Dan. Money, Money, Money. For the price, at least they could put the maps storage on this thing so that it doesn't have to eat away at your storage.
I mean, I certainly hope the app will load maps on the phone and not rely on the decrepit at&t data network to download the maps on the go, otherwise you may not see where you are going until after you get there.
I guess they could always just put the the maps on a microSD Card... oh wait...
TomTom doesn't really invest much in the US. If you look at the products available in Europe you'll notice a much bigger investment. They just want to make money without putting the work in that it takes to be a true PND leader. The most they have ever invested in the US PND market was their TomTom commercials several years ago.
What are you talking about? They invest more then any other company out there for standard GPS systems.
Wow, that's crazy.
Voice Guided Navigation is included in my $97.50/month 2-phone Family Share Plan with Unlimited Data, Text, and Mobile to Moblie calls.
On a recent trip in the passenger seat, my HTC TouchPro2 with Sprint's fully featured Voice Guided Navigation worked BETTER than my brothers TomTom!
Voice Guided Navigation on ATT's network must be an "adventure"....and unfortunately, there's no "app" for that.
Don't be dumb man. I use to use Sprint's Navigation for my Touch Pro with Sprint and it worked okay. Any network providers (Sprint, AT&T, Verizon, etc...) suck compared to dedicated devices. I now have an iPhone and if I was going to use Navigation on it I would only buy a Navigation system that downloads the map data into the phone. I wouldn't want to always have a cell phone connection because there are a lot of places I take trips to that there is no cell phone connection.
BTW, there is an iPhone app that give you Voice Guided Navigation. Actually there are a few of them now.
And I shoudl say it's all about what you prefer to what type of Navigation you want to use.
Ted,
There's an app for that... AT&T Navigator (aka made by Telenav same crap as VZ and Sprint's GPS solutions)
Luis-
The ATT Navigator add-on cost more money $$$.....it's not included as it is with Sprint's Voice Guided Navigation ( I pay ONLY $97.50 for 2 phones, unlimited data, unlimited texting, unlimited mobile-to-mobile, Voice Guided Navigation, Sprint TV, NFL Mobile, etc).
The fact that you refer to TeleNav as "crap" reveals the fact that you have ONLY have experience with ATT's navigation.
As I said earlier, there's no App for ATT's horrendous network and plan pricing.
Face the facts, there are many things the iPhone can not do and ATT is the least desirable US wireless provider.
Brian-
Don't be an idot man.
Navigating with Sprint's Touch Pro 2 works very well while DRIVING, traveling, and visiting new cities.
Also works well when in a new area and need to find something/anything....It's also nice to be able to search by voice as well while driving.
I easily stand by my side-by-side comparison 100% in terms of the moving map, voice guided directions, course corrections, features, and search abilities.
Now when I want to explore Colorado's 14'ers or record my new secret fly fishing spot, THEN it's time to use a handheld GPS specific device.
Another deal breaker is no pass-through for dock cable used in to play audio through car stereos...
