Verizon Storm2 on October 28th, BlackBerry OS 5.0 for original Storm out now

If you have an original Storm purchased through Verizon then first, our condolences. At the risk of rubbing it in (since you're still on contract) we have to tell you that the second generation Storm2 -- the full-screen BlackBerry you should have waited for -- just got an official $179.99 (after $100 mail-in rebate and 2-year contract) October 28th release date as expected. Storm owners can, however, take solace in the BlackBerry OS 5.0 update now available for download that boasts several improvements including those keyboard and general usability enhancements we already knew were coming.

Where is the Marketing for this product?
Marketing for the BlackBerry Storm 2 is being spent on the Droid. This fact becomes obvious when you realize that they are releasing the phone on the same day the are officially revealing the Droid to the public. You don't release a phone on the same day as revealing another heavily advertised phone unless you don't care that much about it.
Granted, I don't feel the general public was too into BlackBerries anyway. I feel it's more a business brand than anything else. The Motorola Droid however is clearly Verizon's premium phone to fight against the iPhone.
In the future, it'll be Android vs. iPhone, not other competitors. And that's why Eric Schmidt had to leave Apple and Arthur Levinson had to leave Google. They are going head-to-head in the future on pretty much all fronts.
I shouldn't have waited for the Storm2 - that would have been a year-long wait. But this OS update completely changes the experience for the better. I'm waiting another year for my contract to expire so I can get the Motorola Sholes.
arrggghhh...the storm has been the biggest phone failure i've been stuck with...ever. the idea of sticking with this platform is crazy. I'll wait for VZ to release a WiFi enabled device - droid or not.
Umm, the Droid has WiFi.
Looks like RIM is gonna be overshadowed by Android in Q4.... by a lot.
I tried to upgrade original my Blackberry Storm that I thought was going to be the greatest phone since sliced bread and you know what happened? After about 20 mins of downloading the updated software from my home computer to my phone--a "Fatal Error Occurred and I had to reinstall my upgrade software." I can't wait for the Droid to come out. RIM really really got it wrong. How can anyone want a Storm 2 when the Droid is coming to town? Makes no sense to me. p.s. I’m not downloading the latest software, it will probably just erase my phone book like last time. I’ll wait two weeks and have my Droid
I installed the new OS this morning. If you havent done so yet, your a fool. Its a completely different phone. Everything is instantaeneous. No lag whatsoever. New screen transitins, threaded sms, the list goes on. Biggest thing. Massive memory leak plugged. I used to run with no memory left. Now i have 40mb. Oh and if your worried about losing anything, my phone restored all my contacts/apps/etc perfectly! The storm is finally freaking awesome!
god this update is taking for freekin ever.
why are they not offering some sort of discount to current storm owners to upgrade to the new one? how are you going to sell a product with KNOWN software defects and less than favorable reviews and not reward the loyalty shown by the few? thanks verizon and rim
How I can update this?
