HTC Droid Eris priced at $99 for Verizon?
Sure, the DROID's getting all the attention today, but you might recall that it's not the only thing Verizon has in the pipe has it preps its first Android assault -- HTC's got the Droid Eris in there somewhere, too, which is shaping up to be little more than a branded Hero in a slightly different shell. Against the insanely-spec'd DROID, that may not be a drool-worthy proposition, but fortunately, it's looking like Verizon is going to be pursuing an aggressive tiered pricing strategy that might allow these phones to coexist in peace and everlasting harmony: unlike the DROID's $199 sticker, gdgt has it on good authority that the Droid Eris will run a hundie less at $99. That spanks Sprint's version which currently runs $179.99, but hey, if this means we're going to see a price war down in the 528MHz trenches for the Android midrange, we're all for it.

well now the universal "droid" branding makes even more sense. verizon has a $99 and $199 version of its "droid line". hmm...
Sprint would win that price war considering their plans are much cheaper than Verizon's.
That's assuming people are smart enough to notice the monthly bills vs. the up-front price of the phone itself.
I'm personally switching to Sprint for the better pricing on plans and better phones with comparable plans (Verizon's Connect Plan is unlimited data/text/Web limited voice and limited to non-smartphones, $120 base for a family plan, vs. Sprint Everything Data Family $130 for unlimited data/text/Web/GPS/etc. limited voice and no phone limitations. Sprint's coverage in my area is about the same as Verizon's, and Sprint can roam on Verizon so I'm good. The reason it comes out cheaper is my corporate discount is better for Sprint, but even it were the same, I'd most likely go for the Sprint.
And yet is still hemorrhaging customers... seems to me that "you get what you pay for" applies with Sprint. Some are willing to settle, others are willing to pay better service.
