DROID tethering? It's coming early 2010, says Verizon

When the Motorola DROID debuts in Verizon Wireless stores bright and early this Friday, one nice little feature that won't be making an appearance yet is tethering, for computing with your laptop on-the-go when that Android 2.0 interface just won't cut it. We're pretty sure that missing functionality won't be lessening the early adopter crowds too much, but if you are so inclined, Gearlog's confirmed with VZW that its "Broadband Access Connect" tethering plan is indeed coming to the device, but not until sometime early 2010. Now, how about muscling Motorola and / or Google for some of that double-finger pointing our fine European friends get to indulge in?

so i guess this means tgoogle will be removing any tethering apps from the app store for vzw customers just like they did for tmobile.

does anybody know if the eris will also lack tethering at launch?

This is as ridiculous as charging extra for syncing with an exchange server.

Verizon my try to put on the good-guy hat and open up GPS and other gimped features (post lawsuit I might add).

I am so thankful for custom ROM's, providing for free what Verizon is too lazy to support.

This is an absolute dealbreaker for me. I will not buy a DROID without tethering, which I need for day to day business (and I'm unwilling to buy another data plan to use with a USB cell modem). Too bad for me - I guess I'm getting a Blackberry Tour after all when I upgrade next week.
