PSA: Sears charging $50 less for new DROID activations than Verizon
If you walk into a Verizon store today and pick up a DROID, you'll be out $300 (before tax) out of pocket, then you'll twiddle your thumbs for a few weeks while you wait for some mysterious PO box in Texas to send you your $100 rebate on a debit card. Wouldn't you rather just pay $200 upfront? Or better yet, $150? Sears -- which, we have to admit, we didn't know sold phones -- is charging just $150 without a rebate for the DROID today, a full $50 less than Big Red proper with rebate. We don't know how good these guys are with customer service (Simplexity is running the store on Sears' behalf, it seems), but truth be told, we can deal with a little incompetency for $50.

So yeah....if you go to Google's main search page and click their Droid link, it takes you to a Droid info page. From there you can follow the "Get a Droid Now" link and go to a Verizon Wireless page to purchase a Droid. You'll nowtice that they also have the $149.99 option for existing customers who have a NE2 credit and will re-up their contract for 2 years. From the looks of it, this is not a Sears thing, this is a Verizon thing.

You are wrong. Sears and Walmart are doing it for $150 for NEW Verizon customers. Verizon only does it for EXISTING customers. Of course it's a "Verizon thing" by proxy, but you can't get the same offer directly from Verizon.
Why does verizon require a mail in rebate. I mean I can walk into an AT&T store get 3gs for $199.
If verizon really wants to compete they need to rethink this.
Wal Mart too...
Verizon is desperate;that is why they are carrying this phone. If Sears can do it cheaper, than go for it.at&t has better service and 3G (HSDPA in my case) in the rural areas of New York. Can Verizon match that? NO!!
Best Buy did price match it for me, when I went in to get my preordered droid today. $179 for an existing customer.
Best buy pricematched the 149 price for me. Just fyi.
You guys can pick yours up from BJs like I did and get free activation, and a $25 Visa Gift Card, plus $100 Visa Rebate Card!!!.
I didnt have to wait in line like in the stores. They have a ton in stock! Plus all of the accesories are cheaper at BJs. I went to the one in Richmond, VA. They can even ship the phones if they run out of stock. If you guys want to get a phone with no problem go to a BJs!!!
Does anyone know how long this offer from Sears is going to last?
I searched around on the fine print but couldn't find an end date.
Just wondering if there is one, or if this is a permanent offer.
I don't know how any of this works, but I have a year left until I can get a new phone with ne2. If I were to get a droid now, how much would I be looking to pay??
i like your article and it's really informative information.i like this type of article..
This isn't Sears, this is Simplexity. Pretty much every retailer uses them for online phone sales...BBY, WM, Sears. Sears doesn't actually sell phones. They just partner with a horrible, bloodsucking company that does. I feel bad for the Sears employees that will get asked by customers where their phones are.
Link?
Hmm, is Simplexity = Wirefly?

I went to a Verizon store and checked out the Droid. The sales person asked me if I was interested in purchasing one. I said "yes". Then, she asked me to come over to her desk to get started. I told her that I was actually going to purchase it from Sears though and I was only in the store to check it out in person. She asked "why Sears?". I told her about the $149.99 deal. She called a manager and he looked it up on the Sears website. Once he verified that it was legit, he told her to match their price. So, I got it for $149.99 at Verizon (after the $100 mail-in rebate, of course). Win!
