ViewSonic heats up phone collection, V901 spotted on Microsoft China site
In just one week, ViewSonic has gone from a glint of a 3G phone maker to having two models prominently on display. We've already seen VPC08 Windows XP phone, and now up to bat is the V901, found in the pages of Microsoft China's official site. The Windows Mobile 6.5, apparently TouchWiz-skinned device has a 3.6-inch, 480 x 800 touchscreen, a Marvell PXA310 processor, 128MB RAM and 256MB ROM storage with microSD expansion, 5 megapixel camera, GPS, Bluetooth, all hailing to the wavelengths we call CDMA EV-DO Rev. A. Launch is Q4 2009, so sometime very soon -- but we get the feeling this is China-only, at least for now.[Via iTech News Net]

Hi,
Thanks for sharing nice blog.i really enjoy this one.keep it up...
Seems a little odd it's running Touchwiz and doesn't have the Microsoft icon bar at the top, methinks someone goofed.
So it's a ViewSonic that looks like a Samsung, use the same Win6.5 OS as a Samsung and is skinned with TouchIZ like a Samsung.
Why should anybody prefer this thing to the original Samsung?
So somebody at Samsung found a sucker to pawn off their designs that didn't make the cut, and now they will be a "ViewSonic." Didn't ViewSonic learn their lesson with their foray into televisions that "me too" products don't make it very far (or make a company very profitable)?
@JayMonster
I wonder where you get your informations dude, while this phone (unless it will be priced very aggressively indeed) dos'nt seem to me to have any chance on the marketplace, PC monitors and LCD tvs (some of them rebranded) according to the wall street journal account for 40% of ViewSonic profits, their medium/small TVs in particular are selling briskly in important markets such as eastern Europe and the middle east.
I have been closely watching this stock for a while now and while I always found something better, or at least more promising to buy, (also because unfortunately I don't have huge sums to invest) this is a brand that with a management that would position its products slightly more upmarket and put into production a couple of original and innovating products , I would definitely buy into.
Even the choice of getting into smartphones or high end featurphones could be a wise one, since they have the possibility of bringing to the market products similar to LG and Samsung at a fraction of their prices; this one however does'nt seem to be what ViewSonic should have proposed right now.
By making it run Android , for exemple, they would have generated a lot more buzz around their product and saved on TouchWIZ licensing fees too.
Apple,Google and MS stocks kept my portfolio afloat during this recession, HTC's will (hopefully) see me trough it and it may well be ViewSonic to save my butt in the next one.
@Plexus
I love ViewSonic monitors, and have no complaints about them, I am not an investor in the stock so I do not pay attention to their "small TV sales in Eastern Europe and the Middle East." What I do know is that (from my narrow U.S. centric view) when ViewSonic (as well as Dell, Gateway and a few others) got into the television market, they were thought to be game changers. It never materialized Instead their sales fell flat and (then) no name brands such as Vizio blew right by them. Take a look at a major retailer like Best Buy and you will see that they do not even carry any ViewSonic televisions any longer.
Top U.S. Brands (as of Q1 2009) by market share
Vizio
Samsung
Sony
LG
Sharp
I wish you well in depending on ViewSonic to save your butt as a stock... just so long as you don't look for US based LCD sales to bail you out.
