ITG's xpPhone gets options for larger screen and Windows 7, loses sense of identity
It makes sense to release your mostly-theoretical (so far, anyway) desktop OS-based slider handset with the world's newest and best version of Windows, but it when your slider handset is dubbed "xpPhone" things become a bit more muddled. But that's the word from Pocketables, who's been in touch with ITG and learned that the MID / phone will not only ship with a Windows 7 option, but also be available in 4.3-inch, 4.8-inch and 7-inch screen sizes. There's also rumors of price ranging from $500 to $700, but what we'd really like at this point is a bit of a demo of this thing in action -- especially now that there's a similar ViewSonic-branded device breathing down its neck.

Those screen sizes are ridiculous. 7 inches? That's not a phone. That is a mni netbook. I would not want to hold that up to my ear. I also want to know more about what the phone does that warrants such robust screen specifications?
@Dwayne
That's why they offer 3 (THREE) possible screen sizes, obviously those who will choose the 7" option will not use it as those who will choose the smaller option.
If this thing will have enough grunt to manage w7 and to make use of w7 touch capabilities , while keeping the price within reasonable bounds, it will surely carve its niche in the marketplace.
However it seems to me that before an handheld device will be able to run a fully fledged desktop OS quite a few technological hurdles need to be overcome (specially battery hurdles); of course I still hope to be absolutely wrong and pleasently surprised by this thing.
am i the only one who thinks this phone is just going to be retarded? it sounds like youre going to be holding a pie plate to your face.
yea i saw a guy using skype and he had to hold his mac book to his ear too.. lol im sure the xpphone can use headphones.. lol
So is this reason enough for people to switch service from Verizon to another carrier? I've been with Verizon since about 1998 and I've had my current phone an LG VX6100 for about 5 years, but I wonder if it's not better to switch to AT&T and purchase an iphone 3gs or to pay the extra money for a 1 year contract? I was hoping to finally upgrade next month to a smart phone but Verizon's new policy is now giving me reason to rethink that decision. If I'm correct Verizon already has the highest fees for their phone, data, and entertainment services.
