Sprint prepping update for Hero, still 1.5-based
Looking forward to a warm, delicious Donut or Eclair to get beamed down to your Sprint Hero? Well, keep on waiting -- because there's an update in the works, but it's still going to rock the same Android 1.5-based core that you're already enjoying. It looks like users can expect a so-called maintenance release in "the next few weeks," and while a complete changelog isn't yet available, folks are being told that it'll fix DST and messaging issues. As far as we know, HTC hasn't put the finishing touches on Sense for 2.0 anyway, so we wouldn't get discouraged just yet.[Thanks, Matt Z.]

You all let BGR scoop you with Sprint story, according to them the price has dropped to $100
where did u read that at on BGR? i've never seen that and can't find it?
i highly doubt that sprint would make the hero the same price as the pixi, i.e. less than the pre.
the pixi which just came out today, would barely sell compared to the much more advanced hero at that price unless u wanted a physical qwerty with ur touch screen
BGR merely posting that "some tipsters are telling us..." does not a scoop make. The correct term would be "rumor". Show me an in-store price tag or some other hard evidence, then I'll give you a "scoop".
I credit Engadget for waiting for more proof before writing about it, lest they end up with egg on the face were it to surface (as some suspect) that the $99 deal is only through its online partnership with Wirefly, and not for those renewing their contracts.
Um, aren't they updating it to 1.6? Cause 1.6 supports CDMA while 1.5 doesn't so the sprint hero is all hacked together.
I believe HTC has stated that they were skipping 1.6 and going straight to 2.0 when it came to doing the full port of SenseUI.
Sprint NEVER releases ANY information about upcoming updates. This really pisses me off. I've gone through 3 WiMo phones and now have a Pre, and they've never said jack ****. But for the almighty Hero they are giving WEEKS of advance notice as well as details about the update itself?? My blood is boiling!!
The Pre just got an Update last week!!!
Well Karl, the only reason we have this much information is because of all the hell raising going on in Sprints forums about these serious battery and memory leak issues (among others) that both Sprint and HTC knew about before Heros release.
I wonder if this is the same update the Verizon Eris is getting on Dec 11th. I know theirs is getting some sort of "maintenance update as well
I don't like the fact that Sprint waits until everyone else has updated or sends their phones out fully functional before they think about taking care of us. Why can't we lead by example. We need to stay on top with phones and our Network. That is one of the ways we can...
Memory and battery issues with the Hero?
Not on this (older) side of the Atlantic cesspool.
Apparently americans got not only the uglier versions of this fantastic device, you got the crappier too!
I'm so jealous of your possibility to grab a Moto Droid that this is the least you deserve.
Jeez, take that chip off your shoulders fellas.
I'm not an american hater by any stretch of imagination, I wrote that I'm jealous of your droids because they are not yet available here and the rest of comment was ironic.
Life must be really boring if you always take yourself so seriously.
Good! I'm probably getting a Hero for Christmas, so the update should be out by then. Hopefully the 2.0 update doesn't take too long, but I understand why it's going to take a while. Probably won't come out until they release a new phone with 2.0, such as the Dragon/Passion.
does most HTC hero's still have the dust under screen problem?
Correct - you're raising he** on the forums, and the forum mods (SarahKS and wengla02) are raising he** with the product teams. It's paying off.
I want a Hero, but I have an old "grandfathered" in plan. I do not want to upgrade my plan just to get a Hero. ANy ideas??
buy one retail, with out the discount, then you can "update" your phone in your online profile, and not change your plan. FYI to all: I own both a Hero, and a Pre...Im changing back to the Pre as i write this. I like the UI of HTC sense but the Hero its self is slow, laggy and somewhat annoying. I also own an iPhone, and a BB bold, of all the devices i personally feel, that even in its early stages of development WebOS is the most well thought out platform, and improving.
