O2 UK gradually rolls out iPhone unlock, forgot to give us the instructions
Last week O2 UK announced that they will start unlocking iPhones while they lose the exclusivity deal with Apple. We signed up straight away (via the link below) and didn't hear anything until today -- just five days after O2 unlocked the first batch of iPhones, according to tweets from fellow users. As you can see in the picture half of our text message from O2 went missing for some reason, but luckily the procedure was easy enough for us to decipher: simply put in a non-O2 SIM card, then connect to iTunes and boom! You can see all this illustrated in the gallery. Sadly we're stuck with O2 for another twelve months, but are there any UK folks here planning to switch carriers soon?

I would love to unlock my iphone 3gs to use it in a different carrier.. i would be so nice. but i don't think this is ever going to happen in usa.. because att knows that when the day come they would lose a good amount of their clients.. it would be only a dream.
I wonder if this will happen at some point in Canada as we now have all three major carriers handling the iPhone.
If indeed AT&T does what O2 has done, then with all the iPhone users leaving AT&T, there should be a sudden relief on network resources, so AT&T shouldn't have to do anymore network updating until 8G makes it's appearance. Fun.

Jason,
who's network would you use if your 3G phone was unlocked?
Verizon - no
Sprint - no
T-Mobile - different 3G frequency.
Good luck with that.
@ JM:
Be friendly. I'm a WinMo fanboy, and I have to disagree with you. An unlocked Iphone will still work as 2G on TMobile. It also opens the door to international usage while traveling and pay-as-you-go carriers in the US.
Spoke to O2 customer service. First they refused any knowledge of it and then i asked to speak to the supervisor when they gave the secret out.

@savvy Thanks, but the link was already added since the dawn of time.
