Microsoft leaks a screenshot of Windows Mobile... something
Microsoft's been pretty cagey with the future of Windows Mobile so far, but apparently the Office Mobile 2010 team just doesn't care -- in addition to leaking a new interface in that confidential slide deck last month, they've now included this screen shot on the Office Mobile 2010 beta website. Here's what's wild: this design language completely matches the first set of Windows Mobile 7 leaks we saw nearly two years ago, so either Microsoft hasn't made any changes in that time, or what we're seeing here is something else entirely. Combine that with rumors that WinMo 7 isn't due to hit until the end of next year, and we're starting to think there's something bigger afoot here -- the only other alternative is that Microsoft has waited nearly three years to launch what's little more than a refresh of its current interface, and even Redmond can't be that slow to execute... can it?

Ok - if you need market figures to justify your purchase in a product then you probably don't have a mind of your own.
Stop worrying about how many other people have bought the same phone as you. It doesn't make you phone any better or worse.
I would not tell people not you use OSX or Linux because of Marketshare.
IDK... I think they could be.
Microsoft surely not aiming at eye candy here. They must be betting all their money on the corporate world.
I think it looks great.
Would look even better at 800x480 resolution with more screen space.
I think it looked better 2 years ago, lol
Now im tired of looking at the same mock ups
i say chicken to this
Or it's just a very old screenshot or piece of concept art used as a placeholder?
Highly ranked? People really want to believe Microsoft is coming out with something better than this crap, and you know what I don't blame them. I hope they come out with something better as well, because this looks like they got the design team for IE mac back together!
Man, this place is filled with windows fan boys lately
Actually, this looks exactly like my Point UI interface I've had on my Dell x51V for ages.
Wow, two years and they still haven't done anything. Microsoft has to have the laziest GUI department out of the entire industry.
I hate trolls.
No offense...
I just looked at screens of the current iPhone UI and it looks like the one released two years ago.
Take it up with MEDX or A. Alberts!

@gm76
LOL!
Aint that the truth!
oh no no,
i hear they made the icons 20% icon-ier.
August next year is the latest they'll release Windows 7 I think.
LOL @ gm76 and jason51873
People are leaving WinMo in droves and going elsewhere. There's nothing wrong with the UI though /s.
And not many are complaining about the iphone UI, in fact every cell maker is still trying to match it after 2 years.
Sucks to be you
Windows 7 is already out buddy
;)
WinMo is collapsing. There is just no two ways about it. In a single year it went from ~11% to today's 7.9% and is still dropping. The iPhone is already outselling all WinMo phones and Blackberries have kicked WinMo out of the enterprise market. Users have very little incentive to stick with a legacy platform when there are far superior alternatives in the market place. Manufacturers are dumping WinMo and swtiching to Android.
WinMo's outdated UI is the least of MS's problems. It's WinMo's core that is rotten beyond repair. It's a dead platform.
You're a mockery of the Engadget Ranking System. GTFO.
Ya'll ever wonder how everytime Microsoft shows up on engadget, you hear the outcry of so many 'Oh noes!! Microsoft made 2 billion dollars less!!!! The world is gonna end'.
If its Windows Mobile, how its utter crap and ancient, etc (Insert fav. Engadget fan criticism here :P). Yet, I happen to use Windows Mobile and ill be honest, Microsoft can use more stability alright and GUI enhancements.... But to me its worth it as it is, I mean I love modifying the heck of it and all (Mind you cause I want not because it doesn't work) but it occurs to me that if the 'oPhone' is so perfect wouldnt they be so busy playing with their shiny new toy?
Or perhaps thsese people happen to be the new breed of fans pissed at the world and Verizon for that matter, for waking them up back to reality... I suppose ill never know :(
Oh well, back to playing Audio surf on my Zune, have fun everyone :)
Yeah. I obviously meant windows mobile. Surprise surprise the article is about windows mobile you bunch of fucking morons.
still an ugly interface...
'the leadership from ballmer really shines now'
Looks like its another one of those old winmo 7 concepts. We just havent seen it before.
Ok guys, this is not a leak.... Office 2010 is available for download on Windows Mobile 6.5 Marketplace. I am downloading now.
Thanks for the heads up jeremyshearer. Downloading it myself as well.
wtf is this shit
SharePoint in mobile form?! I LOVE it!
I wonder if they're syncing this up with the cloud based versions of office, or possibly reserved for corporate implementations of SharePoint.. Probably both..
Office 2010 will probably be the first gen of the "three screens" collaboration platform, but I doubt they can meet that time-frame.
Yeah, this looks to me like it's a demo screen of functionality, not so much one demonstrating UI. It has traditionally been difficult to get documents shared on your company's internal network on your smartphone.
Again, how dazzling does the UI of an office app need to be? This isn't the homescreen, it's a document sharing app.
Anybody notice that the scheduler icon is overlapping the blue bar slightly? Either thats a bug, or this is a mockup!
@Andrew it's slightly covered because the screen scrolls. Flip up/down with the finger. There's probably more content underneath.
notice the bottom 2 icons in the list (excel and active-sync) they look like they overlap... I vote old concept art or a photoshop job
obviously a place holder as it resembles "vista" styling.
What, no breathless AAPL patent application updates today? You're slipping Nilay.
It's okay, man. I accept that you don't like me, and I accept you.
And nobody notice that the Office 2010 beta is up.... well except me
Yup, you're the only one.
Does anyone care? Since Office 2007 craptasic UI who isn't switching to Open Office?
@ByeMS: Pretty much everyone since OpenOffice is terrible?
@ByeMS
Maybe anyone who works for a big company?
You're not going to tell me that the GIMP is as good as Photoshop next, are you?
OpenOffice is 90% of MS Office, but let's be honest, it's the 10% that makes the difference in a business (aka office) environment. Same goes for the GIMP btw.
I'm not...I really don't care for that massive piece of Java crap. And I have really liked Office 2010 since installing the Technical Preview a month ago and upgrading to the Beta today. I never really had a problem with 2007 after getting used to it either thought.
I'm actually using OpenOffice and MS Office.. I quite like the latest OpenOffice and started to use it more than the MS version in the last couple of months.. About 18 months ago I hated it, but I've started seeing more small businesses that I deal with choosing OpenOffice so I had to check it out and can start to see why.. It might be 90% of MS Office, but I'd take 90% for free, and so do businesses especially in this climate.
I can't fault MS Office.. e.g. OneNote is an awesome app, and such a shame so many people don't even understand what it can do.
too little..... too late... and it probly comes with stinking silverlight on it to boot
bye bye windows
So you're judging the entire operating system based off a single mockup for an Office app on what may or may not even be that operating system? Brilliant!
Yeah by that logic, the iPhone OS must be terrible. I mean, you have to admit the most of the UI (especially the homescreen; thank you Winterboard) is fairly boring to look at, and it only comes together (really well I might add) once you start to use it.
