TomTom updated to support iPod touch and original iPhone
Back in much simpler times, TomTom's navigation app had claimed compatibility with all iPhone and iPod touch models. Then suddenly, somewhere along the primrose path to publication, original iPhone and iPod touch support evaporated. But no more. TomTom's pushed an update that allows for turn-by-turn navigation, but of course, you'll still need the car kit to work. Was this the missing link between your $100 and owning this app? [Warning: iTunes link]
[Thanks, Scott M]
Update: So, the Car Kit for iPod touch has hit TomTom's e-store, and it's $20 cheaper than the Car Kit for iPhone due to the lack of handsfree support (we guess, anyway). Thanks, Philippe!

"Was this the missing link between your $100 and owning this app?"
Yeah, the missing link to spending 99.99 was another 119.95 + S&H
The missing link WAS the $220 instead of a standalone GPS.
The missing link NOW is the inevitable google turn-by-turn for free :)
Actually, I'm The Missing Link. :)
Actually, I'm The Missing Link :]
The car kit is $120 and the app is $100. For $220, I'll pass.
RE: ipod touch
so wait.. in order to use this, you'll have to stay within range of a single wifi network?
This can't be a serious question...
The TomTom accessory has a GPS chip in it.
doesnt help me buy the app, but if the dock now supports the ipod touch, im in
Meh.... I'll keep my Droid
And I'll keep my G1 with hacked on google navigation :D
Does this have voice now?
No, it was not. I still will not buy it. My iPod touch is going to stay being used for Music, Podcasts, games, and wifi web browsing. My phone can handle the GPS stuff.
So, $220 to utilize my iPod Touch as a GPS device? Eh, I think not - I think I'll stick with my perfectly good Garmin Nuvi GPS.
I will us my droid
Don't us it too hard.
Is it okay to us a droid? I know it sounds fun, but, it might be illegal...
I accidentally us a droid.
Posted from his droid...
Does the iPod Touch even fit into the TomTom cradle? I thought it was too thin.
Missing link was Magellan announcing support for the iPod Touch... gotta love competition.
and no thanks, I'll just keep using my ancient nuvi.
Did anyone tell TomTom that the original iPhone doesn't have a GPS chip?
did anyone tell you to read the thread-the dock does
pwned
Expected an update to the maps, as the Irish map is several years old!
Cut the dock price and app price in half. Then we are talking.
So does the Tom Tom app have Text to Speech yet?
Yes it does have Text to Speech now.
It can't get any clearer that Apple *has* to throw Garmin and Tomtom under a bus, and let Google put their "Droid" GPS app on the iPhone. That is simply too much of a feature for Apple to be on wrong side of and remain competitive. They should care more about selling iPhones than apps). Of course if Apple doesn't act fast, Google may decide not to write an iPhone GPS app in order to keep that competitive distinction for Droid devices.
I agree that Apple does indeed need to allow Google to put its navigation software on the iPhone, not least because it is basically there already. It certainly isn't in Apple's interest to let its competitors have an advantage over the iPhone if there is an acceptable option to have the same application on the iPhone. That said, I'm personally not interested in Google's solution because I want the maps on my device and I don't trust the cloud/data connections enough, even with the caching that Google Navigator provides.
The cradle is still listed on the Apple store as iphone only.
Now the the app is compatible with the ipod touch, and as listed in the engadget review, is the cradle compatible with the ipod touch? Did somebody tried?
Thanks for your help!
Have I tried? No. However, since the iPod Touch does not have a GPS chip and therefore needs the TomTom Car Kit in order to get access to one, the answer is almost certainly "yes, the TomTom Car Kit is compatible with the iPod Touch". The new software would not work on the iPod Touch without it. However, I do wonder whether it will only work with the TomTom Car Kit or whether it would also work with other GPS-enabled iPod/iPhone cradles, such as Magallen's new one.
@Kelmon
The app can be ipod touch compatible though the cradle is not compatible... It was said on french website that Tomtom was preparing a new cradle specific for the ipod touch... If somebody can try this, that would be great!
The most important question is: is the new software actually any good?
I think they did this to sell more.
Well, at the price of the carkit PLUS the application I get a regular TomTom, so doesn't sound very attractive to me...
Hey look at that one (updated) :

So did somebody tried the car kit with the ipod touch? Is it working?
*facepalm*
What a JOKE. Who would buy this? The iPod touch can't even give you turn by turn directions because it doesn't have a SPEAKER. No thank you.
No, you are the joke. The speaker on my iPod touch works just fine.
Wow, $99 for the App? Are they crazy? I'd much rather have a DEDICATED GPS then use my phone. I'd consider the phone GPS as a last resort to the real thing. If they want to be realistic the app has to be priced less then an actual GPS.
This is BREAKING : new Tomtom car kit for the IPOD TOUCH!!!

What's the biggest problem?
The iPod Touch doesn't have GPS
Duh!
I'm already using tomtom on my iPhone 2g for 2 months...
What? Am I lying? I'm lying because 2g lacks gps? But i'm using it with external gps reciever over bluetooth! What? Does 2g also lacks full bluetooth support? But i'm still using it...
Oh, maybe that's because its jailbroken...
