@JForce
Because you don't plan on spending $50 in the next 6 months?
Buy a spare battery and a decent headset. :)
i would totally jump on this if it wasnt a 50 dollar prepaid visa card =/ Not much of a rebate there..
It's not like you can't use Visa almost anywhere though is it?
I made the mistake of cancelling my amazon order to reorder it. Darn. I wonder if this will effect when I get it. Anyway, I was informed I won't get it until after December 25. :(
I'll wait for the Dell sale....hopefully
@Mikey C
depending on what state you live in.. tax may be an issue. I'm in california and with dell i get a lovely 9.75% tax vs 0% tax with amazon...
Ugh, these price drops are torture without a true NAM version. The phone has everything you could ever want squared... Except 850MHz. All the 3G networks in Canada are 850MHz so it's not like I even have the undesirable option of switching carriers. Whyyyyyyyy!
That's incredible price. That's only 323€! Heck, iPhone 3GS costs twice that here even with carrier subsidies
Wish a model with both WCDMA 1700/1900 were available...
interesting play on avatar and handle
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
that's 323€!!!!! It's practically free!
can you americans send some of these things back to europe so we can sell them on at double the price?
i can't believe how lucky you guys are
Only $250 too expensive for my taste. I have no clue why you people buy them if you're gonna be sticking with your carriers anyway, in which case there's nothing to be gained here from not having a contract, especially given that this is a large, bulky, heavy phone with a lower quality screen and keyboard then many other QWERTY smartphones out there.
I just don't see how 32GB of storage, Linux, and tech specs on par with the Droid (go look it up, they share many of the same chipsets), is really worth a $500 price point, especially giving its obvious faults.
@ kenny goo: Yeah, I'm pretty sure the Droid is $599 unsubsidized. And the Droid doesn't have MAEMO. So I'm thinking this is a pretty good deal for a powerful smart phone. Good luck finding an good unlocked unsubsidized smartphone for (480-250=230) $230. If you do find one though, let me know, I'll take 50.
@DoubleD
I agree with you, but nokia E51 and 5530 are both less that 230.
You best be trollin, Kenny. This phone is intended for use on T-Mobile, which now lets you get much cheaper, non-contract plans when you don't buy a subsidized phone. You will be saving money. SAVING. If you want to continue getting raped on contract for whatever shit phones your own carrier feels like selling you, no one's going to stop you. For everyone else, there's things like this.
*Re-reads my post*
I don't believe I said ANYTHING about buying or wanting a Droid unsubsidized. I also don't believe I said ANYTHING about wanting ANY type of unlocked phone. So before you people with more money then brains feel the need to down vote my comments, how about you actually try and read them eh?
The point I was trying to make is that unlocked phones are an unnecessary joke when compared to subsidized phones if you're gonna be staying on contract anyway like most people do. There is ABSOLUTELY NO benefit. You got that? Or do I need to dumb it down and say it again for you?
Moving on, if you'd rather have a phone that's almost $300 more expensive then a phone that's lighter, slimmer, has a better keyboard, and a better screen, just to get more storage space and a Linux OS, then be my guest. I personally, am not.
@n_shakuras
Oh okay. T-Mobile. That totally changes everything. So rather then getting the best 3G service with the best coverage, I'll get a carrier that's had two huge major outage problems in the last few months, one of which resulted in loosing many people's phone data. Yea, that's makes sense.
And if they do end up merging with another GSM carrier in the US, which all sources say they will if their Android support and pre-paid plans go south, and that carrier happens to be AT&T, like many are speculating, then you can say goodbye to those low prices because they'll all be jacked up to what AT&T (and Verizon, since their pricing is near identical) is charging.
So if they merge, your $500 investment in a big and bulky phone will be all for nothing (turning it into more of a paper weight then a worthwhile purchase). And if they don't, you'll still get inferior service for at least the next couple of years, and you'll still have to deal with a shit screen and keyboard. Wow. What a fucking *bargain*. Man. I'm such an idiot.
Ya know, I don't even know why I bother commenting on these news stories, because the majority of people who read and comment on them are people with a stupid amount of money, who have and are willing to spend it in unnecessary ways (like this), and will go out of their way to down vote anyone who disagrees with their purchasing habits. I swear, you guys are just as bad as the console fanboys on Joystiq.
@kenny goo
"because the majority of people who read and comment on them are people with a stupid amount of money"
maybe u should start thinking like them then so u can have a stupid amount of money too?
actually... if you really can't see how you're paying around 2 times the subsidy back to your carrier over the life of a contract, then i think i already know why you dont have a stupid amount of money.
Given the fact that most of the comments on this page are about people actually considering to *buy* this shit gives me a pretty good indication that a good amount of people who keep up with unlocked phone news, read these comments, and post their own have a stupid amount of money that they're willing to throw away. That's called logic. How about you use some.
And I'm not running down the subsidies road again. If you're saying that, you didn't read any of the shit I just said, and I'm not repeating myself. The fact of the matter is, I'm getting much, much more for my dollar by getting a Droid and a contract with Verizon then I am buying this and getting a contract with any US GSM carrier out there. Period.
Hellbent indeed! Rock on Maemo!
Now if only Amazon can receive the items so they can ship. Or maybe Nokia will allow them to ship in the event they are sitting on inventory with Nokia not allowing them to sell the inventory until they have had a chance to rape people willing to pay the full 649 plus tax and shipping cost...BASTARDS!
On Tuesday, Dec 8th, the Nokia n900 is available for $450 on Dell ($100 instant rebate and $50 mail-in rebate)
