And no, we're not talking about Skype Lite, either -- a real, legitimate, native-code version of Skype has just hit beta for S60 3.1 and 3.2-based devices. Right now, 17 phones ranging from the
E51 up to the
N96 are supported -- all Nokias -- but more are promised by the time they get around to releasing a gold build. The app supports free Skype-to-Skype calling over 3G or WiFi, instant messaging, and file transfers, but one thing that it
doesn't support is video calling, which makes
Fring's recent release all that much more interesting. It can be installed over the air, so go ahead and grab it now -- unless you're using an
i8910, in which case you can go sob quietly to yourself.
I've been using an N95 for over a year now...and Symbian for quite a while...but aren't they a little late to the party?
@xj911 Better late than never... I wish they rushed their video support a little tho...
I feel guilty saying this but why do they try and make this sound like something newsworthy. Maybe 3 years ago when Skype on mobile was kind of hot. Or even further back when Symbian was pretty innovative...Now its kind of seems...Meh..
Once again, a company releases a Symbian app and supports Nokia phones only. What the hell is the problem with supporting Samsung and Sony\Ericsson Symbian phones? The i8910 and the Kurara \ Satio are higher spec'd than ANY nokia symbian phone in existence, yet no one seems to care.
well, if you read the news you'll notice that s60 5th ed isn't supported at the moment

Even worse. What's the point of releasing new software in 2009 for an OS created 3 years ago? Lol.
@(Unverified) Because maybe then lots of people already own a phone with it?
Plus, S60 9.3 for instance, exists only just a bit more than a year...
Install a custom ROM then you'll be able to run nokia apps.
