HTC posts EVO 4G video, has great taste in news sources
There's really nothing in HTC's recently-posted video about the magnificent EVO 4G that we didn't already know from our time with it at CTIA, but we couldn't help but notice something very, very important: they're following yours truly using the phone's News widget. We might recommend that they refresh considering they're looking at news that's nearly a year old, but we think the old mantra applies here -- old Engadget news is better than no Engadget news at all. Follow the break for the video.

Loves it. Nice music pick too.
WANT
bye bye palm pre hello HTC EVO
@Panormous second. great track : O
I seriously cannot wait for this phone. Just wish we could get some new information. We haven't had any worthwhile leaks about the evo since it was announced.
@i hear you on that but honestly what they ahve said is almost enough for me
@Jean Marc how about a release date? Price?
@sfox8
Yesterday I was on the phone with a rep from Sprint to find out about the possibility of a switch from my iphone on ATT for the EVO 4G. Well during the conversation I was told by the rep that the EVO is close to being launch, and that it shouldn't be more than 60 days. That is still a long time, but at least I have a sort of time frame in my mind.
@bhagiratha thats great news. So summer must mean 'early' summer then. Thanks.

@jarobusa Yes, release date and price will be the possible dealbreakers for many. I, myself.... will put down upwards of 300 on this... Bout what I paid for my Palm Pre, before the rebate tho. I WANT this phone and will stop at nothing, really.
So excited for this phone, even though I'm not a fan of Sprint.
@AckbarsFist Let me help you with that:

What a battle is mounting. Sprint is using the Evo as a mobile Android 4G hotspot. Android is Verizon's premier mobile platform. So now, Verizon is offering the Pre Plus as a mobile hotspot for no extra cost. The Pre was first released on Sprint in an exclusivity deal. Talk about battles!!
@Cingulair
I'm pretty sure Sprint had Android phones before Verizon though, didn't they?
@sfox8 Yes, they did.
Is it just me or does it seem like there should be some text flying on screen while it hangs on the front facing camera?
@evldead123 I thought so too. As if they haven't quite decided whether to include it or not. [/worry]
@tamayoduck like anyone really cares about video calling...
I'm am so exited for this phone!!.. I wanta get rid of my pre cause I've been havin some troubles with it.. :/ not cool..
They had *BETTER* advertise this phone on TV.
None of this online-only garbage that the Nexus One had.
Seriously, most idiotic move ever. If they would have advertised offline, they would have outsold the Droid.
@Johnny Rockets Not so fast. The Nexus one is currently sold unlocked, directly from Google = FULL PRICE. NO ONE wants to drops laptop money on a new phone, when they can get something cheaper, subsidized on a plan.
@Dellibedaboss
Your comment that NO ONE wants to spend that much on a phone makes no sense, considering I did and I know plenty others that did as well. So that blows your argument out of the water.
In addition, the N1 *IS* sold subsidized by T-Mobile, so again, your comment holds no value.
I'm in Orlando so we probably won't get 4g for a while. But that's the least of my allure to this product. I mean look at the specs! Palm's gonna have to come up with something totally bangin' for me not to drop em' when this drops! Sorry.
summer cant come soon enough this phone will be the best phone of the year
Apple will try hard to produce something to reveal this device, but in my opinion ... they would not even come close. I have been an iphone fan for a long time and was proud of my "baby", well ... until this monster showed its beauty and power.
Presently, I am totally anti-iphone .... -:)
I think Sprint should launch this EVO as soon as they can to pick up market share and get this HTC 4G in the hands of customers.
sprint yay-yay! Greatist mobile carieer out there at the moment. Any one wana challenge that tought?
@saddam3. Sure, I will!
Granted Sprint has the best piece of hardware coming soon, but it's not here yet. Granted, they have a head start on 4G WiMax, but it is not rolled out nationally and their 3G coverage, which the grand majority of smartphone users are on, is still VASTLY smaller then Verizon. Granted, their prices are lower by line item across the board comparison, but you get way more for the small increase in cost w/ VZW.
Bottom line: Sprint is Best ONLY IF you live in an area w/ their 4G coverage, never travel outside of it AND own the EVO. I know no one who fits this description.
@gcims Sprint is half the price of Verizon and has free roaming on Verizon's network (but no 3G). Verizon has a advantage phone wise because of the Droid, but when both will get the Nexus One and Sprint is getting the Evo, that will change in Sprint's favor. The Evo is still great even on 3G, and the 4G adds some future proofing even if your area doesn't have it right now.
@cloud858rk " Sprint is half the price of Verizon and has free roaming on Verizon's network (but no 3G)." Roaming on 1x sux wind and not an option for my biz. Also the roaming is on the vzw towers but the tx/rx units are place much lower than the one at the top= smaller footprint
"Verizon has a advantage phone wise because of the Droid, but when both will get the Nexus One and Sprint is getting the Evo, that will change in Sprint's favor." Again EVO not out yet, N1 on vzw>N1 sprint. Incredible out in days and will do a fine job filling that form factor.
"The Evo is still great even on 3G, and the 4G adds some future proofing even if your area doesn't have it right now." We have no proof how the phone will perform on 3G yet.
Again, I stand by may final statement in my last post= Sprint will be the best for carrier for some people, in some areas as long as they stay in those areas. VZW does the most good for the most people in balanced fashion.
Keep in mind, LTE is the best 4G and everyone is fleeing WiMax. This time next year, Sprints 4G will be an obsolete standard and playing catch up again.
sprint. Best carieer out there! Anyone wana challenge that FACT!
@saddam3 see above
Wow... things thing is beautiful... makes me want even more... I'm buying as soon as this baby is released!!
Yes, but Google and Verizon have a contract you could say. I'm pretty sure Verizon Will have something better with 4G.
@VZW611 Seriously doubt that. Also doubt we'll see anything "better" from VZW this year. Nice try, though. Never give up, it's what separates the fanboys and cheerleaders from us mere mortals.
This is the phone I had been waiting for! But too bad it is releasing only in the US. HTC, release this phone for the whole world and make it claim the crown of the best phone ever. 4G or not, this is THE phone.
Forget the Ipad.
I want THIS. Already plotting to make my single line into a family line, giving the brother my Hero, and getting this without extending my contract but getting the contract price.
makes a change seeing this over the apple headlines, even if you exclude apple from the options, the last post was at 7:12 am with the Nasa unmanned flight, too bad this is US only and not destined for Europe anytime soon :-(
I'm still using an old Palm 700p with a broken screen because I'm patiently awaiting this super-beast. I've stuck with sprint for this long and it's finally going to pay off.
This phone is the secks~ it's tempting me to switch carriers. If something like this were to pop up with a keyboard, I'm sold, regardless of carrier! lol
motherfucker
And I JUUUUUST bought the Nexus One a month ago.
I guess I'm going to be buying this one as soon as it comes out. I wonder what the unlocked price is going to be.
@Stone632 oh you are upset right now. Sorry . But that a bomber .on the other hand I am hettin that phone and gettin rid of my palm pixi
How about a GSM flavored version? With US 3G please.
moar phone
The phone is great but iPhone is gonna beat it.
@Freddy2Fred
huh?!
please list your proof sources and deadlines to support this opinion.
@gcims He's got none because he's a troll. Please don't feed the troll.
Saw this handset at CTIA...too bad they wouldn't let me touch, it was locked away behind a glass case. I sooo want this thing, but dammit, I'm gonna have to upgrade my plan! They won't let me put anything newer than my Diamond on my old school SERO plan! Bastards!
@Juke Box Hero Sprint is still cheaper than any other carrier, AFAIK.
@gcims Theres no phone like the iPhone. I used to own android and windows mobile devices. None of them dirint beat the iPhone. Not even a Droid beats it and nexus one is just a joke. My bro has one. iPhone is gonna come out and counter them like they always do. I bet you that the iPhone comes out with a 5 mega pixel phone and beats that 8 mega pixel phone... It happens with every other phone that I seen and used. I won't be surprised if this happens again.
beachball?
