After a couple months of testing, RIM's
official Twitter client for BlackBerry has just moved from a private, invite-only affair to a free public beta, adding a whole bunch of features in the process. The app's now got some comprehensive notification support for DMs, replies, and mentions, the ability to create and manage lists, on-device profile editing, magnified avatar viewing, and improved performance -- features that might stand a shot at catapulting the app toward the upper end of the Twitter echelon on the platform. RIM's being clear about the fact that this is still a beta we're dealing with here, but with public availability, we're at least a baby step closer to a final product.
It amazes me how far behind BB is in terms of apps. With any of the other big three OS's, there are more Twitter apps than you can count.
@Johnny Rockets there are more than enough twiiter apps in the Apps World already!
@Johnny Rockets as joshyth1012 said, there are plenty of twitter apps available for BlackBerry and have been for a long long time!
The difference here is that RIM themselves are releasing a twitter client which integrates into the OS very well. It's akin to Apple themselves building twitter as an option into iphone OS - not a third party app.
I've been using twitterberry, ubertwitter etc for ages - but this official RIM version should be very fun to try.
Sdie note, you'll find a lot of apps on BlackBerry these days. Many of the top apps on iphone are also on BlackBerry. If anything, BlackBerry users are spared many pointless apps :) I myself run Shazam, Ubanspoon, Weather eye, AP News, Trapster, Facebook, Twitter etc etc
@higherdestiny Shazam need to stop charging people on BB, when they are giving away their app for free on the App Store, and Android Market!!!
@Johnny Rockets
Jesus dude, how many Twitter apps does BB possibly need? There's likely over 50 as it currently stands... do you really see much of an advantage to having more? How "far behind" is that in your mind?
I always did liked blackberries better than apples...
