Don't get too excited -- this isn't
Android 2.1, unfortunately, but it
is another stab at making the
CLIQ stable and usable. We speak from personal experience when we say that Motorola's first Android device has a tendency to bog down and do strange things, so we're pretty excited to see what this latest update does for users since it's promising (among other things) improved battery life, stability, touchscreen accuracy, widget response, and a reduction in unsightly "Force Close" messages. It also throws in support for WMV and WMA media for good measure -- and with the
myTouch Slide seemingly around the corner, competition's about to heat up for this guy, so there's definitely some pressure to get this particular update bang-on.
I want 2.1 but would settle for 1.6 so I could at least install Google Navigation.
@ArhcAngel Agreed. There's so many apps out there that I'd like to install, but I can't because the CLIQ only has 1.5.
With the amount of poor reviews this thing got, I can't imagine there's very many users out there that actually care anymore!
The Cliq is a very adequate mid-range Android phone, hardware-wise. Its problem is that it had a very "1.0" feel to it on the software side. If Motorola tightens things up for the 2.1 upgrade it will be a really good mid-range Android phone.
Of course at the rate they're going, it will be a low-end Android phone by the time they get the update out.
@StalkyTheFish So true, you're right on point with everything you said. I've been contentedly rocking a CLIQ since it came out, and love it. I'm dying for a upgrade to 2.1 though. You listening Motorola?...
Also, did anyone else's Swype (beta) get borked after the software update?... Had to do a hard re-install of it after the update, and it's still running all buggy...
If they want to improve stability and usability, they should release an update to remove Motoblur.
Im using a Cliq, and I for one really like it. I think the social network integration of Motoblur is nice, but the UI is a little chunky. I think they should keep the social network stuff and jam it into 2.1 already. Im hungry for some cupakes.
@ClothoBuer6293 You mean Eclairs?!?...
Yeah, my CLIQ has been getting crazy with all the random WTF moments. I hope this clears up some things. I don't want to reset and have to recustomize and download if I don't have to.
I'm so glad I never got this phone, thanks Chris for your great review many months ago.
