We've just gotten word from a trusted source that AT&T is currently signed up to get Sony Ericsson's
Xperia X10 in fiscal week 30 of 2010, which represents the tail end of July and the beginning of August. Naturally, those plans can change -- AT&T has been known to
drop Sony Ericssons from the lineup at the last minute, after all, and there's no way they could have that week 30 time frame locked in with certainty this far in advance -- but it seems at least plausible considering the fact that an 850 / 1900MHz 3G version of the device exists (
we've tested it) and that AT&T's significantly ramping up its support for Android this year. Of course, the relevance of an Android 1.6-powered X10 in the third quarter is an open question, but sadly, it could very well be the top-of-the-line Android device in AT&T's roster even that far down the road. We'll see how this plays out.
I want this phone or the samsung Galaxy.
@DallasB
No, No, No, Do not get the Samsung Galaxy. I'm in no possession to ask for your trust on any matter, But Trust me on this one.
@DallasB
you mean the galaxt s right? i might get tired of waiting for the galaxy s myself and get this.
SE really don't do themselves any favours in the US do they? I guess maybe AT&T stipulated an upgrade to Android 2.x before release or something.
It's an excellent phone though - had mine for about 3 weeks now :)
I really hope this thing gets 2.1 by July/August, or at least is priced reasonably (I'd be willing to pay $150 for it if AT&T kept their crapware off).
Please AT&T, don't dash my hopes of owning an Android phone again. This cruel joke you play on your customers has to stop.
@jroff
The unlocked nexus One is probably the only way we will see a true Android phone on AT&T.
@Ajcag723
Yeah, unfortunately. Sucks for us "family plan" folks that can't switch carriers and can't justify paying $500+ for an unsubsidized phone.
@jroff
Buy an AT&T phone from Best Buy or somewhere that has good phones for cheap sell it than pay the difference.. You will prolly pay $150 for the contract phone and sell it for around $300 new in box.. So with your profits you will be able to get that N1 alot cheaper..
Boo. I was excited about this phone 6 months ago.Next to the Nexus One, and the HTC Incredible, this phone is irrelevant.
Where the heck is the exclusive HTC devide AT&T promised before June?! Seriously, if they haven't made an official announcement on the Desire or Galaxy S before mid-May I'm just giving up and getting an unlcoked Nexus One... If it hasn't happened by then it probably won't happen 'till after the new iPod launches, if at all.
If the X10, the Aero, and the Backflip are all the Android devices that AT&T's got by mid-year I don't see how anyone can view that as anything but a colossal failure... Because it's not like they're even ignoring Android outright, they're just giving it the backhanded treatment, so sad.
@Impulses
Yeah, seriously. I'm actually surprised that it's taken AT&T this long to show off the Aero and (to my knowledge) still have not announced a release date. I have a feeling we won't be seeing any HTC devices in Q2. AT&T doesn't really strike me as a company that likes to surprise its customers by announcing the release of 4 phones at the same time.
Speaking of those HTC devices, has anything other than the Desire passed through the FCC flying AT&T's bands? I really hope we don't end up with something that was approved last year... like an AT&T branded G1 or something equally ridiculous...
@jroff
AT&T branded G1 FTW!!!
Sigh... Incredible! Oops, wrong carrier.
@AndyJ
Could be the Desire though.
I still want this phone. If they can shell out updates this is a solid phone. I'm just hoping that they skip 2.1 and go straight to 3.0. And soon. I want this phone badly. It's gonna be crazy this summer for smartphones. HTC Evo 4G, iPhone HD, the possibility of this phone getting a major update. Great for us consumers.
AT&T needs some SENSE!!! (Pun very much intended!)
Even if it's July this phone will be hot for customers who don't read engadget. Even for those who read engadget this phone will still appeal for many for it's style. I enjoyed Nexus one from the day it released and now have X10. Nexus One looks ugly next to it.
I installed Swype keyboard and now enjoy this phone a lot. Don't need Android 2.0 or multitouch but still would get it if someone at XDA Developers can root this beast and get a custom ROM with SE Blue theme.
hopefully att doesnt mess this one up.......
@Pdavis
Even if they do a guy at esato forums already discovered the way to unbrand this phone.
I will eventually switch from AT&T because other than the IPHONE I do not really see any good devices from this carrier and their prices are astronomical!
JULY???
Seriously??
Wow, haha. Good luck with that Sony.
With the Evo launching in June, along with the next iPhone, and the Incredible already here, who the hell would want this PoS???
The UI is already being ported as we speak to other Android devices, so the X10 will literally be 100% irrelevant before it even arrives on the US market.
Way to fail Sony. Looks like the only thing you guys can deliver is DELAYS.
100% ultra-fail.
@Johnny Rockets
they're also pretty good at delivering losses
@Johnny Rockets
and pretty good at relying on past glories! 100% fail indeed
I'm still loosing hope on a good ANDROID phone, because AT&T will fucked it up, as they did the shitty Backfllip. but I still don't know cause AT&T is being greedy for their iPhone 4G. And not announce dates for good ass ANDROID. I'm still either getting X10 or The Desire. AND WHAT THE HELL IS WEEK 30?!
@Inspector Gadget80 Get a calender and figure it out! Duh!
I want!! Will wait until the price goes down or when I can upgrade.
