Motorola 'Xtreme' coming to Verizon?
We wish we had more detail to give you, but we've gotten reliable word that Verizon will begin testing a new Android-powered device from Motorola next week called the "Xtreme." We don't have specs handy, but considering that Big Red's got the Devour and the Droid is well on its way to middle age, it would make sense for a new phone from Moto (particularly one with such an Xtreme-ly awesome name) to be more toward the high end of the spectrum -- possibly something along the lines of the rumored Shadow (pictured). Will give you more details just as soon as we have them.

is it me or does Verizon have like ever smart phone coming out .... almost makes me want to move from sprint to Verizon...
@darkspider2042
I was thinking exactly the same thing.. Though we do have the EVO coming. Still can't help but be even a little jealous of verizon customers sometimes though...
@darkspider2042 except (IMO) its not an EVO (with the opportunity for 4G) and the extra $20 to $40 bucks per month to VZ for equivalent service.
@skemme You pay the extra money for the better coverage. With VZW ramping up the LTE launches, it wont be long before the WiMax phones (like EVO) will be obsolete. LTE is the wave, and if VZW holds true, the coverage will be better than anyone else can come close to. It's been said many times over... you get what you pay for. No one knows that better than a former T-Mo and AT&T customer who now proudly sports "Big Red".
@darkspider2042 You should. Sprint doesn't have that many good phones. What phone do you have now?
Man what a push towards android verizon's made...as a webOS user, I wish I had 1/10 the number of devices to choose from that android users have...
@smith2sc
As a webOS user if I had an Android device I would wish it had webOS.
"Droid Xtreme"? Sure, why not?
Geez... Come on T-Mobile!!!! Something other than a motoblur device on 1.5 would be nice!
@Justfinethanku
err...Nexus One maybe?
@mphayvanh Nexus 1 indeed.
@zephxiii Yeah... Because we can sell those at T-mobile locations....
@Justfinethanku
I thought something similar: "Well, there's one more nice Android phone that won't be on T-Mobile." Fingers crossed for the Galaxy S. T-Mobile seems to carry a lot of Samsung phones, so maybe it has a better chance.
All the kickass Android phones coming out and the only GSM ones are the N1 & Desire. WTF?
Oh, and I got to play with the Droid and Devour at Wal-Mart the other day, and the Devour keyboard is WAY better than the droid. The Droid keyboard is horrible.
@Justfinethanku
Yeah! I agree, I feel like I am watching everyone else get the latest and greatest. Unfortunately if T-Mobile were to score something like that they would only offer it to new users getting new plans and those who are current customers will just have to suck wind because all we will be able to do is just sniff the new phone smell.
Too many android devices to choose from if u ask me. They need to relax, just released the Incredible
that's sexy, makes me want to ditch my incredible
@Seany76
I'm guessing that V$ has some sort of Deal with Moto for android phones, so they have to release "x" versions?
I have no idea, just a hunch. But I agree, there are a TON of android phones out there.
I say, the more the merrier. There'll be something for everyone. If Moto releases another slide out QWERTY (hopefully better than Droid), it will be a good alternative to the non-physical keyboard sporting Incredible. Besides, Moto seems to do better in the signal strength than ANY of the HTC phones I've had, so I prefer my high-end smart-phone to come from the big M.
This is annoying. I got my droid in january. I am obsessed with phones. I cant keep blowing $500 on them. Lol come on verizon stop stealing my money!
@nikobasile
That's just sad.
Droid Xtreme sounds right but it looks closer to Droid 2
@krisken
My thoughts exactly, better keyboard and snapdragon please!
@Caprice Dates I don't believe Motorola uses snapdragon
@Caprice Dates Screw Snapdragon! Its all about OMAP4, baby!!!
@SomePerson
At least someone knows what they are talking about. OMAP4 will kick the shit out of Snapdragon8xxx and Tegra 2
man, i wanna get a GSM version
This was the Shadow, so they changed the name, still no specs but the one running around are like this:
4.3 Screen, 1Ghz Snapdragon, 2.2 aka Froyo, 8mp Camera, 748mb of ram and other goodies and as you can see it's WiFi is running N too.
They need to drop this baby by the end of June.
@palomosan
Moto does not use Snapdragon. They use OMAP
@palomosan and from what I hear the screen will be 4.1" not 4.3". Also, the shadow doesn't have a keyboard.
Oh for the love of god, stop making the keys on your keyboard flush!! There are $50 phones with better keyboard designs.
And would it kill you to add a little bit of a curve to the corners of your phone to make it a little more pocket-friendly?!
Geez, I see this as being another ruined design like the first Droid... great hardware specs, nice screen, sturdy housing and good voice quality all ruined by a crap keyboard and a design straighter than a T-square.
I want to like Motorola's phones and yet they always seem to ruin it somehow.
@Hazdaz but........ i thought it succeeded?
Still waiting for HTC to come out with something "Incredible" with a Touch Pro2 QWERTY and Android.
My NE2 isn't up for another year, but I'm not patient. Then again, if I wait, maybe LTE will be thrown in the mix.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a T-mo Samsung Galaxy Pro. If not, I'll probably have to swap to Verizon for this bad boy.
@justfinethankyou Preach on. T-mo needs needs a freaking high end android with a darn QWERTY.
I hope that this beauty will also make it to Germany.
Would be a perfect spare for my ageing Hero. :)
Oooh that looks amazing, i wanted to get the Droid Incredible but i've been hearing about the Shadow and Droid 2, and i'm hoping HTC comes out with and EVO-like phone b4 august, but i might get the droid incredible, i like HTC Sense
This definitely isn't the shadow, this is the motorola motoroi. I also noticed they labeled 2.0 as donut, makes me wonder where they get their info from
1.5 Cupcake
1.6 Donut
2.0-2.1 Eclair
2.2 Froyo
