Manhattan is in need of as much wireless love as the nation's carriers can give it -- and shy of
WiMAX or
LTE, the next best thing is some good, old-fashioned HSPA+ with theoretical speeds going all the way up to 21Mbps. T-Mobile was the first American carrier to aggressively pursue a national HSPA+ rollout (though AT&T has
revisited its upgrade strategy more recently and decided to hit it on the way to LTE, too), and the goods have finally hit the New York City metro area. That means that Gothamites can now buy the
webConnect Rocket USB stick that's been rolling out market by market over the past few months -- and while we can guarantee you that you won't see anything close to 21Mbps in practice, it's probably among the fastest wireless data solutions in town for the time being. Don't go running any web servers on it now, y'hear?
Word to ya Mutha!!
LOL wheres Boston's
Come on AT&T speed it up!
When will T-Mo, HSPA+ come to Chi-town? Mayb I'll switch
@PhillyZ
.
What are the real world speeds? I'm guessing around 10MB down...or is that too optimistic?
@NopeNotThisTime
T-Mob in my area is a joke no one has it so I'm sure I'd be able to get close to that 21mbps
@PhillyZ if you're in chi-town, get an EVO and wimax it up. 4G baby!
I have T-Mo 3G. In uptown chi-town where I work, I have seen 1.9Mbps down and 0.7Mbps up. That's the fastest I've recorded on my Android speedtest app. The average is somewhere around 0.6 - 0.8Mbps down and 0.3Mbps up at varying locations throughout the city and suburbs. Rush hour can really bog down the 3G network. There have been random outages and some very weak coverage areas where the 3G signal can't penetrate walls. Seriously, I'm behind a door and get switch to edge; step outside and I get 3G.
My friend has the Nexus One on ATT and the bastard gets 3.3Mbps down/2.3Mbps up. T-Mo needs to step it up a bit.
Used G1 and X1a, now on X10i.
@skemme
I am considering an EVO 4G til AT&T gets LTE on track since my iPhone blows!!!!
Plus I like HTC sense
@needmoregigs
Ya my iPhone 3G is on on ATT an getting got speeds but, idk I like competition
Come on!!!! AT&T!!! Does anyone see a difference on the t-mobile hspa here?
7Mbps recorded at home using rocket stick.
Not bad
well t-mobile still sucks.. lmao.
@deepen03 lmao so funny!
Meh,
Philly was the first city to get the HSPA+ rollout, feels like Center City is the major area that benefitted from this since the problem 3G-dead spots still exist.
And screw a USB stick, T-Mobile BETTER be working on pushing an (Android) phone that can play with the potential upper limit of HSPA+
