Vodafone UK details iPhone 4 plans a little early, we keep the screenshots
We don't know what shenanigans are going on over in Vodafone HQ, but the UK carrier gave the world a quick glimpse of its iPhone 4 pricing today, before promptly removing the data sheets from the ether. Thankfully, a fast-witted reader by the name of Liam Gladdy captured the incriminating data for us, and we can now sit and ruminate on what Voda has in store. As you might surmise from above, the vast majority of users won't be getting the handset for free, though that doesn't necessarily preclude the contracts from representing good value. We note with glee that Vodafone keeps its data limit at a robust 1GB, unlike a certain other network, and the £30 ($44) a month two-year contract is looking decent from where we're sitting. Prices over 18 months just jump by £5 in monthly outlay with handset costs remaining the same. Click past the break for the full breakdown, including details for the 32GB variety.

@kreatos I get unlimited texts and unlimited internet (3GB fair usage) on my Desire for £15 a month, and I guess yours would be the same as all Android phones T Mobile sell come with unlimited data on every price plan.
other country get iphone free just with the contract alone unlike att u had to paid $200+ data plan.
Just give me the PAYG prices, mate!
@Maybach Probably the same as current 3GS PAYG prices; ~$450 for 16GB and ~£550 for 32GB.
Currently though, only O2 and Orange offer PAYG options.
The UK networks are taking the pi**!! Preorder is 2morrow and they still havnt revealed pricing and tariffs properly! Really is annoying me this
are those minutes and texts to all networks and landlines or only to vodafone?
@user47alpha All.
@user47alpha
As Vlad Savov all. Well, there'll be certain exclusions; 0800s,0845s,0871s etc. Uusual fineprint really.
Anyone know if Vodafone sells unlocked handsets? I'm trying to decide whether I should pre-order a locked set from AT&T or wait a couple weeks and pay out the nose for an unlocked one from a different country (like I did for the 3GS).
@Jason Litka None of the major networks or retailers in the UK sell iPhones unlocked.
If you want an unlocked one, you generally have to find a website that buys them from a country where they are sold unlocked and imports it.
You pay a premium though. Uusing eXpansys as a guide, a 32GB 3GS in black costs £680 ($1,003) compared to PAYG price of £550 ($811).
@MikeWard1701
Yeah, I know they're expensive. I've got an unlocked 32GB 3GS now and paid around $900 for it. I expect to get a good portion of that back by selling it on eBay since the factory unlocked phones seem to hold their value pretty well.
What I was wondering was whether or not we'd start to see unlocked models floating around on launch day because Vodafone sold them that way, guess they don't.
PureMobile and a couple other stores have them listed as "Coming Soon". I was just trying to figure out when "soon" was.
@Jason Litka They are all locked to each provider here in the UK, you can buy one from O2 and pay £15 to have it unlocked though. They sell them in France unlocked.
It's about time Apple sell an unlocked version worldwide.
I reckon I'm definitely gonna leave O2 now. Lousy reception. Lousy Data. Sometimes service is worth a small premium and i'm not so sure that O2 will even be cheaper.
This Canadian is jealous.
Wow, those are half the price of comparable AT&T plans and yet provide more features to boot. Voda seems like a good deal.
The prices and allowances aren't great but I'd be willing to take a punt at Vodafone next time. I've been quite unimpressed with Orange (except for the Orange Wednesdays, which are nice) and I've only heard bad things about O2. What I want is decent coverage and some data bandwidth when I want to use it. I'm quite fed up with either having no data connection with Orange or simply getting the "Server stopped responding" message.
@Kelmon May be a redundant question but have you compared the networks via their coverage checkers, or self testing with PAYG SIMs?
I'm going to be in england this summer and probably before the iphone gets here, will it be sold off contract too?
@Ziv It'll be on 'pay-as-you-go' but chances are stock will be prioritised for contracts.
Pricing looks like its gonna be the same as current 3GS prices, so £450 for 16GB and £550 for 32GB.
adios o2!
Hi all,
Just how do they work out another 16GB of storage is worth £91 as a 16GB micro SD can be bought for roughly £35 but unlike most other smart phones where you just buy additional cards at will and swap them. Whatever you get with your iPhone is what your stuck with for it's life so i suppose they know they have you where they want you and you just don't have a choice. As if you intend making use of the HD video recording and editing your going to need 32GB so will make you pay for it up front..
but it miss a "unlimited plan".
Am I missing something, or is wifi not unlimited?????
@SCB Private wifi is unlimited, but public wifi networks, such as BTOpenZone and TheCloud, are limited.
@Ruthless
Thank God!!
I thought they had lost their minds!!!
I want to know how much it is as Pay As You Go, and unlocked on top of that. That's what I want to go for (and stay on my current O2 Simplicity contract, 300 mins, unlimited data, unlimited SMS, 20 pounds/month).
This is so mental. It's pointless to go for one of these rubbish 'contracts'. Buy the phone on credit card and stick a £15 a month 30 day rolling contract on it. The worst thing about this is that you don't even get the phone slightly cheaper for signing up for 2 years.
God the iPhone is expensive. £30 per month gets you an HTC Desire, which is not only a better phone, but £10 less per month and FREE upfront... Why would anyone get an iPhone? Seriously?
i have these screen shots emailed to me by a friend working at vodafone HQ and has confirmed that these priceses are true and correct.
So i say bye, bye O2, i have also had word that orange prices are similar however are retaining their unltd Data in signing up to 24 month conract,
So looks like ill be leaving O2 to join orange or vodafone so far until other anouncments are made by other carriers.
3 would be 1 to watch as they always under cut the big boys!!
It annoys me that they don't do a 12 month contract when apple release a new handset every year
