HTC EVO 4G getting over-the-air update next week?
Word on the street is that Sprint and HTC are hard at work on a software update for the EVO 4G that would start rolling out on the 28th, next Monday. If true, this would be the phone's second update overall -- the first was pushed in concert with the launch in order to fix microSD issues -- and like the first, this one is designed to squash bugs, it seems. We're told this one will "enhance" WiFi (whether that means 802.11n will be enabled, we're not sure), fix some Exchange issues, and improve battery life, all of which would be welcome changes. Of course, a Froyo update would be even more welcome, but we're just going to have to keep our expectations in check here for the time being.

Yes!
@sfox8
Lets see that Evo 4G vs. iPhone 4 poll
@N900androidOS that's kind of unfair think about it there's a lot more Apple fanboys out there then HTC fanboys as you can tell all those people waiting in line at Apple stores. People aren't going to really look at the specs of the phones unless they actually are fans of everyones phones and not bias
@N900androidOS I meant more apple fans not HTC fans
@sfox8 Alright, I really don't understand. Every single article that you, Engadget, ever write about an Android device contains some statement that it would be better if a 2.2 (Froyo) update would come out for it already. Seeing as though it was just released OTA extremely recently for select N1 users, why is there a constant complaint on every article? Even before the update for the N1 this has been a constant theme. I find it to me very repetitive and annoying that you have to mention it time and time again.
@DroidYou I want to see an update that includes the ability to dual boot Windows XP already.
XP recommended specs: 300 Mhz processor, 128 MB RAM, 1.5 GB storage, 800x600 monitor
The EVO has more than double all of these specs, and the HDMI out would connect it to the monitor.
Someone should do this. Now.
@tehryanhollis Did i mention that since the phone has BluTooth you could connect a keyboard and a mouse. This could seriously run XP as a CPU if you wanted.
My battery life is fine, but an update to improve it is more than welcome.
I wonder if it will include the screen response issue fix. According to an XDA post, the top-half-response issue is software related, and after a test software update the phone worked properly.

It's nice to see a company admit potential problems in their products. Not all EVOs are having battery issues, but I'm sure the ones that are are thankful for the update
Can't wait to see if it's true. I'll definitely be checking for the update on Monday.

I have no issues with my phone at all nut hey ill take the update any time
Only thing im having problems with is the battery... Other then that im fine but ill take a update... Yessssss...
I really hope it fixes that issue but if they don't you know HTC will eventually fix it there not going to leave lose ends with this phone that's why HTC is one of the best phone manufactures out there.
There have been reports of some phones not receiving good wifi signals. So that might be the wifi update. Something like a radio power boost, or it could even be an inaccurate meter they are correcting.
I'm surprised I was able to see this post among all the bullshit iPhone coverage. Anyway, I'll gladly take that update. The wifi is the only thing that bothers me.
@JerzyIroc
Someone has been drinking some HATERADE! ! !
For those with battery issues, make sure to deplete your battery fully before recharging throughout your first week to condition the battery. I noticed my battery life improved substantially after the first week or so.
After the initial firmware updates and Froyo, EVO is going to remain a truly stellar phone for quite some time. At least, until dual-core Snapdragons and OMAP 4-based phones come out. :)
@Tumbleweed Yes, I agree with you. I think HTC is going to keep this phone running and are going to push it. They are backing up this phone very well. People had SD storage issues, and they released an update a day before it was released. Now it's battery and wifi, so here's another update. What HTC is putting into this phone is great for the owners and the community. Big props to HTC
@freezlinetech36 have u made some adjustments to make bat life better? Bcuz mine is not good at all but I do love the phone. Sprint u have done it again. u manage 2 put out an amazing phone and nobody knows it but tech_heads and Sprint customers. you guys are great!!!!!!______ at killing a good thing
@dhamp2g agreed!
I've had Froyo on my Evo for a while.
@bradlo
How does it run? I'm going to wait for the official release, but I'm ready for that update.
@Gmoney3000
I'm really happy with it. The build I have is a port from the Nexus One but it's extremely fast and extremely stable (I can get 40 MFLOPS on the stock kernal, versus like 8 with the stock ROM, if that means anything to you). I never really liked Sense but now I'll never go back.
@bradlo ....CURSES!!!
Give me wireless N and battery improving and I'm good but give me froyo....well you're just spoiling me!!
Im still waiting just to get an Evo.
Remove the favorites widget from your homescreen and then go to settings, applications, running processes and kill the gtalk one. Doing those two things literally doubled my battery life and I am quite happy with it now. WiFi still needs some help though.
No issues here with my Evo, but if it aint broken "fix it" till it is.
yo i be confirmin this rumor. i be workin for thems people at the htc and i knows that update be coming on next week. wifi be betta and it now be teh fastest phone eva

I guess most of the other Evo owners are too busy flaming the Apple topics to notice! To battle my bothers!
I want my froyo release date.
Love it. No real battery problems. Updates are just frosting on my cake
Hmmm, update? Cool. Froyo? Cooler. But can we get things started by releasing a little thing known as the source code? If you thought this phone is amazing now, just wait till the guys over at xda get their hands on that sc.....it could totally change the game.
maybe it will stop the inherent freezing, running hot sometimes, and rebooting during calls thing.
This one is live now. Downloading it now as I type this :^)
Downloading the update right now YIPPY.
Downloaded... And nothing happened...
