Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 gets software update (and no, it's not Eclair)
Sony Ericsson had previously committed to the fourth quarter for an update to Android 2.1 on its X10, and as far as we know, that date's still holding firm -- in other words, the update that's now rolling out to units around the world is still the same old Donut you're used to. That said, it looks to be a worthwhile boost thanks to promised performance improvements in the camera app and elsewhere, the addition of a free backup app, and -- in certain locales, anyhow -- PlayNow functionality has been added. It's probably not enough to convert a non-believer... but hey, for owners, it's something.

Just the battery improvement alone make this update well worth it.
@The Theme Zone Unfortunately, the battery update is either non-existent or is not significant enough to be noticeable.
@Indyan I have noticed a Huge improvement. I am not saying it is now great, but I can now easily get through a day of heavy usage where I was struggling to get through half a day pre-update.
The Eclair update has been moved from Q4 to Q3 and onwards which means that you still can get the update in Q4 but also as early as Q3... I have seen a X10 with Eclair on it and the speed improvement is significant, otherwise the difference between 1.6 and 2.1 is non existent.
Funny, I thought the STE BSP couldn't be upgraded to Froyo. This seems to confirm it (for now).
And when will they upgrade to froyo and gingerbread?
shocking.
this phone would be so much more appealing if sony ericsson removed their head from their butts and got with the programme...
Every time I see this phone i'm reminded of the rampant excitement at it's leaked pics and specs. Never has a phone gone so quickly form hero to zero.
Can no one just hack 2.2 or 3.0 onto it?
@jamesb94
Root has only just been achieved (this update probably breaks it though !)
Once root is established custom roms can come next.
So give us some actual info, does this update break the recently announced (on XDA) root access ?
