AT&T suffering major outage in Florida right now?
We're getting flooded with tips right now that Florida's in the hurt locker for AT&T service -- data and voice alike. We're reaching out to AT&T for an official comment on exactly what's going on, but in the meantime, feel free to post up your experiences (and sob stories) in comments, won't you?Update: All fixed up, according to AT&T.

Maybe they are holding it wrong.
@MJ lmaaaaaooo what else is knew with ATT
Yes, just got off the phone. The rep said it's a 3G issue and turning off 3G will give you basic service. No word on when it'll be back up, either.
At least they fessed up to it on their web page.
Voice is down here in Tampa, but data is working over 3G.
Haven't been able to place a call all day. Just tried turning off 3G, and I was able to place a call. However, any time I call another AT&T customer, I get a message saying that the call can't be completed. If I call someone on T-Mobile or any other carrier, it goes through just fine.
Live in Lakeland, FL. Definitely can't make a call right now...especially when holding my iPhone in my left hand.
Friends in FL are reporting 3G data and voice not working. Backing down to EDGE is working though.
Sent via iPhone4 held the right way from Miami, Fl
Ft. Lauderdale here. Good 3g on iPhone 3gs and Nexus One! 6:20 pm
I got off the phone with 611, they said AL, NC and FL are voice and data down. I was able to make a few struggling outbounds calls but my inbounds are getting bounced according to people that have tried. No ETA.
Haven't been able to use data or receive sms for hours in Tampa, switching to Edge seems to fix it.
No problems here in Navarre Beach all day... On my iPhone 4.
Ya, I was reading the newest iPhone 4 signal article, and went to make a phone call on my 3GS, no dialing. How nice.
Tampa Bay.
Why is this not on Engadget Classic? I would've already known about it! This is not non-critical information!
Ok, fine, its in the area on the right of the page under Engadget Mobile, but that still doesn't really cut it.
In the Tampa Bay area we currently have no 3G service on any of the iPhone devices I'm responsible for on a corporate account. The suggested solution was to disable 3G and use the EDGE network; which does work. What I was told by an AT&T rep is that there is a trouble ticket (TT000014894922) on the issue specifying that a fiber in the Orlando area was cut and is in the process of being repaired. I'm not sure why one fiber line being cut would bring down the entire regional 3G network; but that's what they're claiming the problem is. No redundancy for a large metro market area? Really AT&T; really?
didn't this happen last month too?
@paulwilder Yeah, how comforting that one cable can bring us all down. It's not like everyone thinks to try switching to EDGE, or even knows how to for that matter. (Unless they don't have a 3G capable device of course.)
Service in the Tampa Bay area does seem to be restored at this point.
@paulwilder redundancy is expensive, bad PR is too - but a different department is responsible for that :P
South FL (coral springs) is fine all day on the iPhone 4
Only problem all day was a dropped call with my iphone4 while switching hands to open my car door. STUPID LEFT HAND!
Other than that, service is fine all day on voice and data.
Gainesville, FL
GOOOOOOOO GATORS!
St. Augustine and Jacksonville have been flipping from EDGE to 3G for me for the past 2 days. As well as Valdosta, Ga. Probably because of that nice weather system that rolled over that area yesterday though.
South Miami wasnt effected. however i have family which i have been trying to get in contact with in the Orlando area & it would either go straight to voicemail or the phone wouldnt be in service from 12:00pm, which is bs. i spoke to them now @ 7:30pm & think they are back up. on an iphone 4.
3G back up in Tampa
Confirmed.
Once my service was restored, I spoke to a friend who had tried to call me while it was down. He said he got a message saying "This number does not exist".
That's not embarrassing at all....
In Ocala, Florida, phone has been switching to edge all day and having low signal
3G full bars in palm coast
3GS switched to the "searching..." network a few minutes ago here in Tampa
I've always been curious as to who actually reports these kind of things... Never once have I not been able to get through and thought "Maybe I should let an online forum know about something like an everyday occurrence."
This is what happens when all Florida customers hold their phones wrong at the same time.
@muchdrama
LOL
I'm in Gainesville, and I haven't been able to use data reliably for weeks now. It could be that my phone is a POS, but I also routinely have problems with 3G in general here.
I like AT&T when it works, but I've been strongly considering switching to a more reliable carrier--there's really no excuse or reason for these continuous problems in the South East. I remember Engadget posting articles about problems with the service a couple months ago. What is going on??
I don't understand what's going on @ all. I've owned every iPhone including the new iPhone 4. I've also had AT&T since 2002 or earlier. I've NEVER had ANY reception problems. I live in S. FL & I was the ONLY one I knew who had reception after hurricane Wilma & Fran in 2004.
@Kellyb1668 ATT service in South Florida is awesome except in my apartment. Fixed that yesterday with the Micro Cell. ATT customer service is actually quite good too. I just wish now that Apple gets their shit together with the iPhone 4 and I'd be all set.
