It is weird that many comments here claim the display of the iPhone 3G is sharper than the previous model. I've had a chance to play with the iPhone 3G in Berlin at a MediaMarkt store the day it came out. I've just had come off playing with an iPod Touch in the same store (because I'm deciding whether to buy a Touch now or in September). Compared to the iPod Touch the screen of the new iPhone 3G was noticeably LESS sharp. German high quality tech coverage Heise.de said the very same thing here: http://www.heise.de/mobil/Erster-Blick-auf-das-iPhone-3G--/newsticker/meldung/110695
If the new one is sharper than iPhone 1st Gen. that would mean it was much worse than the display from the iPod Touch. (Haven't noticed anything about the color temperature though.)
I'm an Apple user since 1990 (have used a desktop Windows XP PC at home more than my PowerBook at the time from 2000 - 2005) so I'm clearly Apple biased. But I have to say a laptop without user changeable battery AND without a disc drive is pretty useless to me. Sticking to the topic in this post, the remote disc function seems to be merely a ploy to overcome people's doubts about buying this product. And when they find out how annoying it can be then they will plunk down more money to buy the external MBA drive. (Which will be quite useless when they give up on the MBA due to the much too small hard drive and the lack of an extra battery.) Although people will buy this product because of the convincing aesthetics and the awe inspiring effect on other people, to me this smells a lot like the Apple TV of 2007. Maybe next year Steve will announce that they've listened to people and now believe to've done it right: with a user replaceable battery and a disc drive.
Radio? Absolutely, not only looking for it (have had it in 2 Nokia phones so far) but this is a must-have for my next phone. Since Nokia has just massively destroyed its likability in Germany (due to unnecessarily closing a Nokia production plant) and I was planning on buying a Sony Ericsson anyway, the R306 is the perfect next phone for me. Since I use iPods as music devices I need a phone for radio and basic camera functionality. Perfect combination this.
Back to topic: So can QT 7.2 now make an Movie to iPod conversion without extremely pushing up the datarate? Would love to use it but the files just get too big. At the moment I'm using iSquint, but here the converted files always look a bit darker.
Tobacco is a drug that leads to addiction and illness. The latter not only for the smokers but for second hand smokers as well. I as a German applaud the U.S. for being always the first to take actions to protect people from getting addicted to tobacco and protecting non-smokers from second hand smoke. And I do believe it makes a difference if the protagonists of a film light up or not because it will have an impact on the audience by way of identification and naturally especially on teens.
Like Micah I don't use it because photos are never in alpahbetical order. Having them in alphabetical order in column view before doesn't help. So for me it's useless if I want to see pictures from travels quickly. I always use Graphic Converter which also allows to see short movies during the slideshow.
Well, I can see her point, somehow it would have made sense to use a German actress for the Blanchett role. On the other hand, Kruger was terrible in Goodbye Bafana, so I think she should really think hard about her acting skills before indirectly comparing herself to Cate Blanchett.
gary is right: Besides the unfair price increase for the UK, why can't I buy music from the Italian store? It's a free European market - if I want an album from iTunes Italy I should be able to buy it online even if SonyBMG is too lazy or too greedy to licence it to the German store.

I don't know why many Europeans don't appreciate the EU commission - they are the ones that make life better here when the local governments are just too damn stubborn to do their job (see the resistance to protect the majority of Germans from second-hand smoke, I guess we'll have to wait for the EU to sue Germany).
ok, false alarm about the Mel C album, today it appeared in the Complete Album section and so I did. Will be more patient next time...
Sorry if this has been pointed out before (I am too lazy to read all the posts) but MAYBE IT DOESN'T WORK WITH ALL ALBUMS. I have just downloaded a portion of the new Mel C album with remaining song credits (as I did with many songs before) and in contrast to all the other albums that appear under the "Complete albums" section, the Mel C album is nowhere to be seen. Does anyone know if it takes a certain period of time before the feature becomes active? The section does offer me the new Norah Jones album to complete from which I bought a song 4 weeks ago.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I've found myself using my PC for a lot of conversations lately, and I'm also considering recording a podcast to share with anyone who will listen. There are tons of USB headset / microphones out there, and I'm hoping someone has some solid recommendations based on experience. I'll consider both headsets and standalone mics, by the way, but I'd like to keep the bill under $100 if possible. Help!"
