Thanks for the article, very informative. A couple months ago, my mother received a letter from Chase stating that they were cutting her credit limit by some 70%. With that letter was a notice which said that she was entitled to a free credit report statement so long as she wrote within a set period of time. So she wrote the letter and to this day never received her credit report. Today she received a letter saying that her account was now closed due to inactivity. This didn't sound right to me, so I called on her behalf asking how this could be done without her consent. Chase responded by saying that if she didn't use her card for 6mos or more, they could close the account without notifying her. Sounds ridiculous, but she's glad she's done with them.
