This site also features a lot of other OPhone-based mobiles (like LG GW880 with WVGA screen).

Looks very nice actually.
aside from the interface similarities, it isn't too "KIRF-y." you are being way fanboyish and harsh. surprisingly well-built? have you forgotten that lenovo is a legitimate computer company?

I go to China every year or so also.

I haven't noticed much change around my grandparents' apartment (around Tsinghua Science Park, close to Google China). The same hutong sells the "you bing" with the same price, the same stores with noodles, "bao zi," and pirated DVDs are still there.

However, in other districts of Beijing, I have seen major changes (especially around the Forbidden City, as you have meantioned.

"I'm in the market for a new phone and money isn't a limitation. I'm also not partial to any particular US carrier, but here are some of the features I'd like to have: WiFi, GPS, good coverage in lots of places, push Gmail (a must!), physical keyboard (a must!), a touchscreen, decent battery life and a relatively slim body. And please, nothing that has a fruit logo on it. No offense to the fruit fans, though. Thanks!"
