I think you're talking about the ZR series. This post is talking about the newer Linux-powered devices.

It means all of you alltel customers will be "grandfathered" and your rateplans essentially left out to pasture. The only way you'll be able to upgrade to newer phones will be to move over to Verizon phones and leave your older (and probably cheaper) rateplans behind.

Alltel set itself up to be bought. That was their current business model.. Big win for the Alltel stakeholders and shareholders and for Verizon. Big loss for Alltel customers if they want to keep their existing service over the long-term.
Trickinit is right. It's not under any contract.. can be cancelled any time. AND the 9.99 isn't bad when you consider that most unlimited SMS/MMS packages cost between 5 and 10 bucks when you add them to a regular cell phone service. That's really what the 10 bucks a month is for is the bandwidth supporting the messaging services.

And I dunno about you guys, but considering the number of MMS messages I get flooding *my* phone I'd rather have them go over to the Cameo.. :|

Actually if you had actually TRIED the Cameo you'd see it was worth 99 bucks and 9.99 a month. It's a great device. Pics sent to it look great - even from a Blackberry or G1. And if you scale down any pics from your computer off of your digital camera a bit you can email them via the tmomail.net alias for the phone.

Think about being able to send pics to your grandma who as one of these while you're out on a trip.

Seems to me the "highest ranked" entries here are from T-Mobile critics and haters... Not from people who have actually bothered to TRY the device. I have tried it.. and it's quite good and a good idea.

Luigi,

Ford has a greater marketshare than Ferarri... doesn't mean Ford is better tho.

Apple has a right to their arrogance - they make a superior product.
Dear Santa Steve...

COUGH UP JAVA 6 FOR THE MAC, YOU PUTZ!

Signed,
Feeling screwed in the not-so-nice way.
Carlos, not unless I want to buy an unlocked one and use it unsupported on the T-Mobile network. Doing so is *kinda* a pain in the a$$.

Eh.. only for Sprint and Verizon? No thanks... I'm with T-Mobile and I'll get an MDA or SDA instead. More phone for the money.

ALL of the Robert X Cringleys are morons. Anything they say should be taken with a grain of salt.

Same with that fool Dvorak.

Another thing coming? Hell I might actually ditch my iPod for one of these...!!!

Well, OK maybe not. But HiMD sound quality is far and beyond better than ANYTHING coming from the HDD DAP camp.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I own an iPhone 3G and I'm looking for a decent speaker / alarm clock for it. I am going to listen music in a mid-sized room, so I want nice quality speakers with solid bass. I also want to use it as an alarm clock, so it would be great if there is such a feature. The price can be low-mid to mid-high range. I was looking at the Klipsch iGroove SXT; it's powerful, slick and the reviews are good, but it doesn't have an alarm clock feature. It's no deal breaker if I can set it up from the iPhone, but I'm not sure. Thanks!"
