John and glama, the problem is that THEY HAVE DELETED THE DATA. This is not merely an inability to push data to new phones. What has happened is that the user's profiles get over written with a new, blank profile. And the older profile is not properly backed up - and it's gone for good!
ae00i, using third party sms apps *does nothing for the missing messages problem.* It does, however, help with the battery drain.

Divyam, any idea what they did on their end? This would be valuable info to know if it did indeed fix the problem...
Let's hope someone hacks Droid 2.0 for this Hero. That could fix the problem ;-)
Is there a bootleg cooked ROM available for this thing?
For the record, my second broken sms phone says Rev A and With Google on the back.
n900, as a test, send yourself 10 messages, numbered 1 through 10, and see which ones arrive and how long they take.
Jon, this has nothing to do with that. I just returned my original for a new one and the same issue with missing sms directly out of the box with ZERO apps installed and NO apps killed.
Some phones seem to have the issues while others do not.
Yes there are wide spread issues with missing text messages. Dave, updating your profile is not the answer. You will find that you are still not getting messages! I am back to my Blackberry until this is resolved.
anyone get their free touchstone yet?
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm in the market for a new phone and money isn't a limitation. I'm also not partial to any particular US carrier, but here are some of the features I'd like to have: WiFi, GPS, good coverage in lots of places, push Gmail (a must!), physical keyboard (a must!), a touchscreen, decent battery life and a relatively slim body. And please, nothing that has a fruit logo on it. No offense to the fruit fans, though. Thanks!"
