gagadget loads 10 times faster than engadget...as do all other web sites. Seriously, fix this POS site.
Ugh. When the designers sat down to write out the scope document for the new site, who was the brilliant guy to say, "First and foremost, we want this site to load slower than ESPN.com so we can boast the slowest site on the interweb"? Fire that part-time, highschool intern immediately. Also fire the guy that does your scripting. We are tired of the "Stop Script" dialog boxes. Are you serious with the 4.5 font size in the discussion area? The Top Stories area looks quite the clusterf***. Almost as if someone is not sure how to use Dreamweaver. My suggestion is to employ a brand new technology I read about called Quality Control and Beta testing. It's where you actually get a bunch of average users to test the site on a multiple array of web browsers and OS's. I'm just sayin'.
Are you folks not seeing how unions of this ilk are one of the largest problems facing free enterprise economy today? You will hear some of the largest arguments from this union centered around competitive wages, unfair commission practices and poor health benefits. And they will talk about how companies like Verizon treat their employees so much better. Ya want to know why? Because companies like Verizon can spend the MILLIONS of dollars they save each year by not paying over inflated salaries and benefits to under-experienced union workers and give it to deserving workers in the form of great commissions and improved healthcare. And if Verizon and other companies are so much better, then walk away from AT&T and go to Verizon. But you know what? Verizon and other similar companies in this industry won't touch 90% of this unionized workforce because they CANNOT compete with their existing workforce. So even those these union folks will whine till the cows come home, they stay at AT&T and get their unions to bully around the company. Because they cannot compete out in today's workforce. You folks would be amazed to see the pay, bonus, vacation and health package that most of these union workers get in exchange for a job you could have done as well when you were in high school. Us non-union folks from AT&T who have been putting in 60 hours a week for the last 10 years at a fixed salary are so tired of these leeches effecting our jobs. And now we are having to put in 80 hours a week to learn how to fill the gaps that these slugs will leave open when they strike. Our pay raises have been frozen; bonuses slashed; healthcare costs gone up; we get 4 recognized vacation days per year; and here we are working our rear ends off just happy to have a job. I cannot believe that these groups are talking strike when large companies just like AT&T are going out of business. Unbelievable.
The whole WinMo vs. Palm OS vs iPhone argument is comical to me. You can talk all you want about the new Palm OS, but until it comes out all you can compare is the current OS. And while it is very stable it is also terribly limited in what it can do. And that works for some people who just want a phone, calendar, email and a few other functions. The iPhone is not even a business or enterprise device. While it is a great phone, it is marketed towards a less mature audience than the Blackberries, WinMo and Palm PDAs. And regarding WinMo 6, it isn't for everyone. It takes a lot of care and feeding and you have to be fairly tech savvy to operate it well. But no Palm OS device, iPhone or Blackberry can hold a candle to the functionality I get out of my WM6 Treo 750. I have 3G connection, great keyboard, more than a dozen apps instantly launching from a click, double-click, triple click, long press, great video and music player, great internet browsing, Bluetooth connectivity to wireless headphones and handsfree in my car, voice recorder, 8GB SD card, GPS, slingbox mobile, push email, POP3 email and hundreds of software apps to choose from. Because I have bothered to learn the intricacies of my phone and OS, my device dwarfs the functionality of my Blackberry, Palm and iPhone co-workers here at Cingular/ATT. I am looking forward to the Pro immensely.
Wow. What a giant leap backwards. At first I thought I had somehow changed the default font size in my browser. Was this design not user tested at all. It is funny that technology keeps moving forward at a lightning pace while the quality of design keeps decreasing. Bad move engadget.
Libre, libre
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I've found myself using my PC for a lot of conversations lately, and I'm also considering recording a podcast to share with anyone who will listen. There are tons of USB headset / microphones out there, and I'm hoping someone has some solid recommendations based on experience. I'll consider both headsets and standalone mics, by the way, but I'd like to keep the bill under $100 if possible. Help!"
